My dentist tried to save a cracked tooth with a crown. I wound up "needing" a root canal. (Please read how root canals cannot guarantee that all bacteria is removed). I had severe hives daily for 5 months 1 internist, 3 dentists, 1 endodontist, 1 oral surgeon, 1 allergist and 1 dermatologist. Immediately after I had that tooth removed my hives were gone. The oral surgeon confirmed there was infection at the root of the extracted/crowned/root canaled tooth. The internist, allergist, endodontist and 2 of the dentists flippantly disregarded the tooth as the culprit. The dermatologist immediately told me that tooth infections are the 3rd leading cause of hives. I almost cried because someone finally believed me. The 1 dentist who believed me and the dermatologist sent me to the skeptical, but willing oral surgeon. When he discovered the infection I believe he may have become a believer, too. I am going to write a letter to the others and tell them about my experience. Hopefully they will take heed and be able to help another patient with these symptoms.

Hi,
Just thought I'd share my experience in case it's useful to others. I've had urticaria for a couple of years now and, having seen a dermatologist several times, I could not identify a trigger. Antihistamines are partially effective at clearing the hives but they can still arise even when I'm on them, which has definitely restricted my lifestyle, especially as I primarily get rashes on my forehead.
I went to the dentist three days ago and one of my teeth had infected tissue underneath it. This tooth already had a large filling and had been aching a bit. I decided I wanted it removed and he took it out. I've been on antibiotics the last three days and I'm just hoping my urticaria might clear up. I'll keep you posted on what happens.
Best wishes to everyone dealing with this problem.

Well here is my story eight years back I had a white plastic filling put into my tooth within three days had hives all over my body had them almost a full two years then removed the filling my body changed with in three days after short period they disappeared completely Well here it is 8 years later and my new dentist said things change if you like we can try this stuff again I did use the silver in between the 8 year period and all was fine but this time I said okay. Well three days later hives all over my body it has been over a year I had him pull the one tooth out of my mouth and the other tooth he refilled with silver but I still have the hives am on steroids the only thing that gives me relief. I will stay on the steroids three more months hoping this poison he
put into my mouth go"s away they are not as bad as in the beginning but
bad. In three months I will pull the other tooth and hope for the best .
I am allergic to the white plastic and the chemicals that they use when putting this into my mouth. As far as I am concerned nothing to do with an infection. Just poison chemicals these nitwits use. I will never have an implant or a root canal it can destroy your whole immune system. The Government has to do something about this poison dentist are using they wont until a few senators get a good case of hives there self from a dental
visit.A holistic dentist told me it can take a year or more for this to get out of my system the last time took two years.

Not an easy thing to figure out because many dentist will not admit they are at fault. It is not only the infections that cause problems but the chemicals that they use. Holistic dentist's I hear do some kind of blood testing before they put them into your mouth for computability safety. Thats what i heard if so i do not know. One thing that has helped me very much not for hives but
just keeping ones mouth clean is the Water Pic. I am happy for you because I know what you went through.

Not sure but I would think a tooth pulled that would relieve the hive problem. But in pulling the tooth did bacteria get into your
hole the tooth was in and if so did the hives leave after a few days?

PULL THE TOOTH AND TELL THE DENTIST TO PLEASE TRY TO NOT SPREAD THE BACTERIA YOU 99% HAVE. let him wait two months with him having the hives. The only folks that understand hives is someone that has experienced them. Many rotten dentists will say oh it's not from the tooth BS

I have about as much respect for the average dentist as I do for
Charles Manson. Met two many that wont own up to the fact
of dental work and hives.

I had an abscess in my molar and I got hives. My wife's tooth nerve is dying, but there is no infection. She started taking antibiotics and started getting light hives. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE ANTIHISTAMINES unless your doctor says you need it to because you might go into anaphylactic shock or suffer another severe problem. What happened to me is that the antihistamines suppressed my immune response as they are supposed to. When I stopped taking them, my immune system went crazy and I was scratching 24/7. My body became dependent on the antis. After some internet research, I decided to go cold turkey. My body behaved like a drug addicts going cold turkey and the hives kept getting worse, but I toughed it out scratching day and night with hives welts everywhere nearly all the time. After about 3 months there was a slight difference. After 6 months, a noticeable difference. After 1 year, the hives basically went away. After a few years, I still get tickles, but that was the same as before the hives. I don't get welts except on some rare occasion (maybe a few times a year only). They welts are few, localized, and go away within 30 minutes.

HI everyone, no different then all of you , I have had the hives for almost 2 years . I have seen several specialists , allegy testing, blood work etc. I'm on antihistamines , antiflamatories and prednisone..3 trips to the hospital and they tell me it's an allergy that I expose myself to or ingest. All specialist tell me up its an auto amune condition and I have to learn how to deal with it since no one knows what triggers it. But for sure I will be making a trip to the dentist. Thank you for the information.
