Hi, this is my first post on the forums. Pleased to meet you.

I'm twenty two and have been drinking roughly the equivalent of half a fifth of whiskey a night for atleast a year. Seven days is the longest I have gone without drinking, and that was nine months ago. First, how severe is that? Am I really endangering myself? Second, I want to stop, but am concerned about withdrawal. I am in school right now, and I don't want to have to miss any. Will I be physically able to go to school? Or will I be too sick to sit in a classroom for a little while?

Thanks in advance,
Sam

PS-Are there any drugs or techniques to lessen the symptoms?

Serious amounts of alcohol consumption will cause serious reactions when withdrawn.

I would URGE you to see medical help or at least an AA counselor to assist you.

It's good that you are trying to make these changes.

If your estimation of your consumption is right or close to being right, that's a tremendous change... and you need better advice that I can give you.

Good luck.
