Hi, my son is eight years old, and I think he should already know how are medicines used. Of course, he won’t take any drug without my supervision before he’s at least 16, but he should at least learn some important things. How do I teach my child to take meds every day?

Hi, I’m trying to do the same thing with my daughter. She is 10 years old, I have to teach her to be responsible when it comes to medications. Many vitamins and pills for the children are made in interesting shapes and colors, and I’m afraid it could confuse the children. For example, my husband bought some vitamins for the kids, that are red colored with strawberry taste. I’m afraid my daughter could mix those vitamins for candies, and take more than it’s allowed. Children should learn to take meds every day, and never to take more than prescribed. I remember when I was I kid, no one told me that meds can be dangerous. I had a cold medicine, that was tasteful cherry syrup and I liked it very much. I was five years old, and I managed to reach that bottle. I started to drink it like it was a cherry juice. Fortunately, my parents came and saw what I was doing. I can only say that I never tried something like that again.
