PLEASE DON'T STOP THIS DRUG COLD TURKEY BASED ON THE ADVICE OF SOMEONE WHO IS NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL, AND WHO DID NOT EVEN DO SO HIMSELF.

I respect what you are trying to do (and truly feel for your medical issues), but you were transitioned to another long term drug, and still given a transfer plan to avoid what you accurately describe as a likely precipitous fall in Seratonin levels. Also, some people are on a low dose, with others on one that is much higher. Their plans for stopping should be very different.

Don't get me wrong. If you want off because you feel that this is wrong for you, get off. BUT, please consult with your prescribing doctor to develop a plan to get off of it. If they fight you on it, and you still insist on getting off, please be smart enough to slowly lower the dosage (over a longer period of time for doses that started off higher) before stopping outright. If the doctor won't give you a lower dose pill, and you still insist, try skipping one day at a time over decreasing periods over time. (PLEASE DON'T DO THIS. TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR. IF YOU MUST, THOUGH, THIS IS BETTER THAN COLD-TURKEY.) The withdrawal period may last longer this way, no argument, but wouldn't someone rather have a sprained ankle for three weeks (or two months) than shattered legs and knees for one? This isn't like pulling off a Band-Aid.

AGAIN, CALL YOUR DOCTOR. STOPPING THIS DRUG COLD TURKEY IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. PLEASE DON'T TAKE ADVICE TO DO SO FROM A NON-PROFESSIONAL WHO HAS NOT EVEN FOLLOWED THIS PATH HIMSELF.

Thank you! I went from 30mg to 120mg over a month, stayed on for almost 2 years. Tapered down to 30mg over several months. Stayed on 30mg for close to 2 months. Then skipped 1 day, took 30mg, skipped 2 days, took another 30mg, skipped 3 day, took another 30mg and then STOPPED. Never thought I had depression, never really believed it, but the dizziness, discomfort in my throat, headaches and migraines were debilitating and I finally accepted I had clinical depression. I tried a lot of different prescribed medication and alternative therapies, none helped until I took Cymbalta. I have always had plans to stop taking the medication and I did as described above. I have stopped over 2 weeks ago. Last week, I had a host of symptoms you described, all actually. This week everything intensified and I have not been able to focus without being extremely sorry afterwards. It's horrible. I'm taking migraine over-the-counter medication when needed and it gets me drowsy, but stops the nausea and makes the headache/migraine somewhat tolerable. I don't plan on going back on it. Since I've accepted I have "major depression" and say so when asked if I have a medical condition with no shame, I figured I could work this out without a/any drug that tricks my brain into thinking I'm "happy". I'm afraid of losing feelings for or interest in my beautiful 2 year old. I've already lost so much.

I have been on Cymbalta for 3 months (30's) with Wellbutrin (150 xl). The Cymbalta was suppose to help with Chronic pain but all it has done is cause me to gain 15 pounds. Weight and self image is a thing for me meaning that if I am over weight I go into a even deeper depression. I've been on Effexor before and never gotten off one like this cold turkey.

My suggestion and also what I am doing is to take a pill every other day for 7 days. Second week and third week take only two pills. Third week take one pill. So it would look like this...

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday
Wednesday, Saturday
Wednesday, Sunday ... and done

You may get headaches and dizzy.
It worked with Effexor and I was taking a much higher dose. Keep you posted on how this works for me.

I quit cold Turkey a week ago and feel great! Better than I have in years. It’s like a fog lifting.

I have been on Cymbalta 60 mg for 2 years. My doctor recently changed me to Prozac because the Cymbalta was no longer effective. How long will it take to get the Cymbalta completely out of my system?
