Relapse is the worst, for the guilt and depression that hits once you feel the addiction again. I had tapered down to near stopping level and got forced into some heavy social activity that could not be gotten out of. The need to function drove me back to taking a dose sufficient to act normal and do what was required.
So now it is back to trying to tapper it down.
My sympathies for your struggle, I thought tapering would be easy, it is not.

everyone's body chemistry is different, but for me the worst was 12- 36 hours after taking my last dose. The runs, Hot and Cold sweats, no appetite, depression etc . It was all there. Between 36-48 hrs, I still felt like garbage, but started feeling better mentally because I knew the physical battle was more than halfway over. Between 48-60 hrs, the physical symptoms started easing. I no longer needed Immodium, the hot flashes started getting less and less. I still had a extreme lack of energy though. Between 6o-72 Hrs, I started feeling a lot better physically, most of the sickness was gone and i started getting what is known as moments of clarity. For a few passing moments, I felt totally normal and it was a better feeling than any pill could give me.

Starting on day 4 ( after 72 hours ) The physical symptoms and the depression were gone. This is when the real battle starts. This is also when the cravings start to hit and why you should delete all contacts out of your phone. The temptation to use again starts getting strong. This is also the time one might need a support group to help you cope better with those moments.

I also have to say I'm sorta lucky. I never experienced the restless legs or the insomnia. I could sleep 18 hours a day during detox if i had the time. Even after getting physically clean, I had no problems getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

Feeling like your pre addict self is going to take time though. For me it took about 28 days before I felt like my real self again. You have to remember, you are going to start feeling emotions that were numbed by the pills for so long. There will be bad days even when you are clean. you have to accept that. You're simply not going to feel like superman every day. Having bad days is normal though, and normal is what we really want :)

Immodium to stop the runs is not going to slow down your recovery at all. This is not the runs due to a bacterial or viral infection where the body is trying to cure itself. We ( addicts) get the runs because our spinal column is used to getting pounded with opiates just like our brain. When it's denied those opiates, it reacts by causing us to have the runs.

Immodium contains opiates, but those don't cross the blood/brain barrier,so you can't get a buzz off it. The only thing that's going to cure your dope sickness is father time. In the meantime,go get some immodium and give yourself relief from one of the symptoms. Total relief won't come until our brain chemistry straightens itself out.

im a user of 8 years now and have quit 3 times. i used oxys at about 1000 mg a day and the best way to quit is to go without methadone or suboxone. the will ruin your life. both have worse withdrawls then opiates and its not as easy as it sounds. you just have to want to quit and keep reminding yourself its only a week

In my quest to use recreationally I adopted a once a day usage of opiates. Like you would come home from work and have two drinks, instead I came home and took a couple 10MG hydro, then upped it to 40 MG oxy with the hydro. For some reason I have found this addiction nearly impossible to break. The mental part is hardest as I crave that relaxed happy feeling and without it wallow in depression and boredom.

Using once a day for a couple years has built up a vicious addiction that leaves me with terrible withdrawls now all day until I dose in the late afternoon. Like it is 10:30 AM and my body aches like hell and my mind is under torture.

Tapering down seems harder than ever, even a slight drop is dosage brings pretty bad dope sickness. The OXY is by far the worst, when using only Hydro, I stopped half a dozen times with only a day or two of feeling bad, trying to stop OXY is like ripping your body to shreds and tearing your mind apart.

I don't know how people survive coming down from big dosage. I see that people are sick inside of hours after their last dose. I experience the same feeling now until I dose that one time a day.  I tried calling treatment facilities, they want me to see doctors and get some type of evaluation then wait to get in and they don't do much for you but watch you suffer. I can do that at home.

There is no easy way out, for all the pleasure these drugs give, they claim back an equal amount of pain, that much is for sure! Tapering slowly has worked before for me, but my will power seems almost zero. I do consider that the best route now until I get it down to half what I ususally take then cold turkey it from there.

I did quit cold Turkey and the doc told me I was lucky I didn't die from the detox! if u go to the ER they will help u! Tell them when u start the detox about your depression! they wont let u suffer! they can give u non narcotics to ease the pain of body and mind! they did for me!

you hunker down and stay the course. You are going to have bad days and need to accept it. Everyone is different,so it may take a little while longer for you than others. This feeling you have now is not day 1. Remember we didn't get in this shape after one week of using,so we can't expect to feel totally normal one week after quitting. Hold on, it gets better and better from here on out. The energy level was the last thing to return for me along with the libido. Both took about a month. Call a support center now if you need help to get through this tough moment. Whatever you do,don't use and start the real day 1 over again.

Hopeful29, with all do respect to your doctor, he is full of sh*t, you are either new to this site or don't know all the facts. YOU DON'T DIE FROM DETOX FROM OPIATES, no matter how hardcore your dosage may have been .you go through hell & back, but you live. So please don't scare all the folks trying to get clean. The enemy is fear.

I def agree with the sex.. it will keep your mind off all the pains of the withdrawals.. go to meetings, get a sponsor, talk to people that REALLY HELPS. GET EXERCISE. EVEN JUST A WALK OR A SLIGHT JOB. WARM SHOWERS REALLY DO HELP BUT SOMETIMES MAKE YOU FEEL FAINT IF STAY IN THERE TOO LONG- MAYBE TRY A LONG WARM/HOT BATH WITH EPISON SALT. ICE CREAM IS THE ONLY THING I WANTED TO EAT AS WELL... GET ONE OF THOSE NA - JUST FOR TODAY BOOKS IT HELPS.... BELIEVE ME IT STILL SUCKS BUT THESE THINGS HELP THE PAIN......... IF YOU CAN GET OFF OPPIATES YOURSELD DO IT- 4 DAYS TOPS.. RESIST ON TAKING SUBOXONE .. WITHDRAWL FROM EVEN 0.5MG IS 2 WEEKS AND IS A b***h COMPARED TO THE 4 DAY WITHDRAWL FROM THE REAL STUFF.. HOPE THIS HELPS.. IF YOU FEEL A RELAPSE COMING AND YOU WILL.. DO YOU SELF A FAVOR SAVE YOUR LIFE- CALL SOMEONE
