I was going to say the same thing, but you beat me to it. Withdrawals from opiates are not life threatning. If my Dr. told me this, I'd find another one quickly. The only withdrawals that are dangerous are from Alcohol and Benzos. Those have to be done under a clinical setting and not cold turkey.

Opiate withdrawal will make you feel like death, but again, it isn't dangerous.

I am so glad to hear you stayed the course and didn't give in. It may take a week or slightly longer before your stomach returns to normal. In the meantime, stick with plenty of fluids and easily digestive meals. For me, the physical symptom that was the last to go was the sneezing. That lasted about 2 weeks. I attribute that to the nerves in the nasal tract starting to return to normal after being numbed by the opiates for so long.

My husband is trying to decide while withdrawing from Vicodin if he should do the liquid methadone route or suboxone any suggestions?

I have a relative withdrawing from vicodin and is making a decision to finally quit after two and Half years but doesn't know if he should go to methadone clinic or doctor for suboxone?

Getting on methadone and or suboxon is trading one addiction for another. They might be easier/legal to obtain but more difficult to detox. In other words there are no short cuts in detoxing from opiates other than fighting throught it. When I say fight, I literally mean FIGHT of your life, for your life. Take it personal or as challenge to beat this evil addiction that will eventually destroy your life if you don't fight it, even if you relapse, it's part of a battle in a life or death WAR.

No, do not go the methadone or suboxone route. Hydro is a weak opiod with a short half life of 4 hours. Those two have half lifes of 72 hrs and take a long time to withdraw from. Going cold turkey is the best way to detox from Hydrocodone. It's gonna suck, but he'll feel a lot better around 72 hours.

To be accurate suboxone has a 36 hr half life not 72. Either way, as we discussed before cold turkey is the way to go. One way that I did finally quit was every day I extended the hrs in between sub- intake. I started to take sub- every 24 hrs then every day I added couple of hrs to that, until I was taking 1 mg subx every 48 hrs & the symptoms just went away. Descipline & consistence. It's a war that you have to win.

I am worried i may not be strong enough to make it through this war though i am not a fighter i never knew this would happen to me i know really really lame huh well its like i have heard that a million times but its weard it actually happens this way i dont really care my point is i dont see my self as a strong person or a fighter i think mabywith alot of help from my doctor and meds i can get through it i know i am going to be so miserable and that is what scares me . i am already on medication for sevear depression when i was already a year into my morphene use they took me off my xanax because they wanted to do away with the most addictive meds they could well i may need to take them again if i plan on getting off the morhphene the xanax wasnt as hard to get off as i thought they would be but they are very much addictive any way i am just trying to get as much information as i can as i am seriously stressing

Just a wee note to all of you. I'm am currently taking both pethidine and codeine. I actually take them both due to chronic pain and have had to increase my dose recently so have been running out prior to my next refil. I'm going to have a chat to my dr about it, but the best remedy for withdrawal I've found is rescue remedy (Bach flower being the key ingredient). I'm not sure how it affects you, but I get a racing heart, painful and restless legs, sweats and just feel terrible. I find the rescue remedy fantastic!

Hi all! I'm currently on day one of stopping Percocet 30s. I smoked weed and drank a few beers before bed to help me sleep. I woke up at 3am restless and uncomfortable. It's now 5:30am and I feel the same. A friend gave me some suboxon to take a couple days ago. They are just as addictive. People take them to wean themselves off of Percocet but it does not help. I feel as though stopping cold turkey is the only way. It's gunna be horrible and I know that but after many times trying to go a day without doing something I find myself doing either a Percocet or a sub. Both suck. Also, I am perscribed adderall, which will make you want a Percocet or something to sleep at night. If you are perscribed adderall or any other stimulant DO NOT TAKE IT DURING THE WITHDRAWAL PERIOD. It will make things 100 times worse. I kept active and busy all day today and was fine until the night. If your in a position where your friends are also addicted GET AWAY FOR A WHILE. Until you feel comfortable enough to be around the drugs and say no you need to be away from all influences. Reading all your posts made me feel better about stopping and I wish I could provide more information to help but we have to take it day by day. If you got through today you can get through tomorrow. Don't give up. Your friends and family are counting on you. Do not waste a precious life, you only get one.
