I have been hypothyroid and on meds for decades. I found out recently that the AMA has decided that they would like all women over 40 or post menopausal to be checked every time they go to the Gyn because almost all the signs of low thyroid are the same signs as those that pop up in perimenopause. I think that is very good, because people can get easily confuse their conditions.

I think that is great too. I have been hypothyroid on every test since I was 30. It is only when I developed diabetes, hypertension, and a few other fun maladies in menopause that I started to seriously use thryroid replacement. Besides being overweight, I never would have known that I was hypothyroid. I may have been low T3/T4, but I never knew it other than from the blood test and the weight, but I think that was appetite more than anything.
