I have the same symptoms.

Here are some sites that explain what it could be.

Signs point to a muscle spasm within the throat. Usually nothing serious. Annoying yes. Usually will go away without treatment and can be helped with muscle relaxers.

Hi there, I am a 47 year old lady (non smoker) and for the past month have had a awful feeling of something stuck in the left side of my throat. Like some of the other sufferers of this annoying ailment it seems to come and go, well never really go! just feel some days that it is better and clearing up and the next day it's bad again. I cannot see anything abnormal when I look down my throat, but feel the urge to keep swallowing all the time and eating rough food like toast etc to try and clear it! All to no avail, no clicking noises to report, stumbled upon this site and was surprised to see lots of other people have exactly the same symptoms. Will probably get it checked with my G.P. just to be on the safe side, incase there is an infection and I need antibiotics.Whilst I sympathise with all those who have this horrible sensation/ailment I am also relieved to see that I am not alone.

SOO strange to read how many people seem to deal with this EXTREMELY irritating and ever present "lump" in the back of the throat. Mine started the DAY I was diagnosed with ADHD and medicated with Stimulants. Not sure if it was the diagnosis or the medication to be honest with you; I've heard anxiety and stress cause the same odd "lump" feeling? I'm a 30 year old mom of three, quite healthy otherwise.
My crazy symptom list includes the following:

The feeling of a piece of food stuck in the back of my throat. Sometimes its right in the middle, sometimes its only on one side (like tonight).
Dryness when i swallow and general difficulty or irritating obstruction type friction while swallowing. It REALLY feels like i've just actually swallowed whatever "it" is but "It" never actually makes it all the way down. For a while there i believed i was swallowing that little hany-thing u see in the back of your throat. But no.
I've also had an unusual dry cough and increased need for my inhaler!? I have seasonal allergies that usually cause very mild Asthma, resulting in my need for a Xopinex inhaler once or twice per 3 months. These days i use the damn thing 5-10 times a day (yes i KNOW i shouldnt) and to be quite honest with u, it doesnt even help.....But its there and i'm just in the habit of grabbing my inhaler every time i begin to cough.
I also swear i have bad breath but people say i dont.
I have a terrible taste in the back of my throat.
(I thought It could also be tonsil stones again but i know how to get those out) NOT TONSIL STONES because whatever this is cant be seen or pressed OUT!
The feeling is better in the morning and MUCH worse at night. I actually have to suck on a Halls cough drop just to fall asleep because i swear the thing is growing!
Drinking and eating seem to help a great deal! But as soon as i'm done, the S.O.A.B. is still there annoying the c**p outa me.
omg what else? 8-|
Feels like if I'd "snort" (u know that nasty sound men like to make right before they "hawk a good one") I'll be able to dislodge the "parasite" and actually swallow it this time or spit it right out. - Cept the snorting only made my throat more irritated because -U know-just doing it once wasnt enough. So after about 3 minutes... (once again)... giving up on that familiar little bunny trail of euphoria, I sounded and looked like a retarded jackass!
o.O

Here's the kicker- If i DONT take my ADHD medication (Vyvance 40mg ER) It goes away!
YA Know- RIGHT?
I've tried many non-stimulant and stimulant ADHD meds and this is DEF. the one for me- Or is it?
Sometimes (especially on those days i forgot to take my dose immediately upon waking) I feel like a complete head case as I suddenly realize "WAIT A MIN...I just swallowed... ITS GONE? WTF?

I have had the same thing in the past, the clicking and the feeling of a lump in my throat and was told it was GERD, altho I felt no heartburn as soon as I went on medication for acid reflux it cleared right up. I'm taking medication daily for GERD still and now the lump and clicking has returned. I'm on almost the highest dose of medication available so I'm not sure if its the same thing or not. Try over the counter prilosec or ranitidine if you're first experiencing it, it can be VERY helpful.

Im 16 and lately ive been feeling like there is a lump in my throut. it always happens at night too. sometimes it feels like its closing up and my throut sometimes feels dry. SOmetimes i start to gag. its soo iritating. Im thinking it could be allergies or maybe acid reflex. Im allergic to dust and theres a lot of dust in my room so maybe thats why. also ive had acid reflex problems in the past but it wasnt even that bad.

Hi guest!

I also have this problem & have posted in the clicking throat section. My click seems to be coming from the left hand side of my throat when I swallow. I also feel as though I have something stuck in the throat. Mine has been happening for 2 months now and have seen a few doctors.

They did an endoscopy (up the nose, down the throat) and saw that my throat looked quite raw - think it was because I have been swallowing so much! Don't have a cough though.

They also saw what looked like enlarged lymphoid tissue in the throat - usually comes up when there is an infection present which is likely to be causing the uncomfortable feeling. Had blood tests done and nothing
abnormal.

sometimes it seems to be worse after eating and feels like my throat is closing up! I'm not alergic to any foods as far as I know - certainly no one in my family is etc. and its not as if it happens only after eating a certain type of food for instance.

Hopefully you have had some more luck?? Would be interested to keep in touch.

Thanks

I am 36 years old and have exactly what you described. It feels like a peanut in the back of my throat. I have had every test imaginable but there is nothing. It might be allergies. Sometimes I feel it and sometimes I don't. It seems when the weather changes I tend to feel it more. When I start to panic about it it feels as if my throat is closing up but that is just my nerves cause I can still breathe. I hope it goes away or whatever it is heals itself over time....

i'm 45 year old female and I had it felt like a ball in the bottom of my throat and i couldnt hardly swallow or breathe. Everytime I swallowed the ball moved and i couldnt hardly swallow and i couldnt eat at all. I had a high fever but my throat didnt seem sore but it was red. I looked on the internet and looked up throat infection. It said if u have white patches in your mouth or on your tongue and i noticed i did so I started taking an antibotic called amooxicillin thats what the internet said to take. Its been about 8 days now i still have a little sore throat but the lump is gone but u have to take the antibotic for about 2 weeks and also pencillin will work too. I hope this helps someone because i thought i was going to die thats how bad i felt.

maybe the antibotic wasnt strong enough to kill all of the germs. Go back to the doctor and get a stronger one.

I have this same feeling, but was wondering if it was somatic; check out this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globus_pharyngis
