Hello,
I have been coughing really hard lately and it happens all hours of the day, and I have have been spitting excessively and this does not seem normal. I have been coughing for two weeks now and it does not feel like I have a cold or a fever, but it does feel serious. Are these signs of something serious? Should I get my tonsils removed?

It doesn't sound like something that would require your tonsils to be removed. Normally doctors will only remove your tonsils if there is something anatomically wrong (excessive size or pitting) or if you have chronic and recurrent severe infections.
The coughing without fever or other symptoms could be bronchitis or some other sort of inflammatory or viral illness. Is your cough productive or dry? Sometimes if you have a chronic infection you will not have a fever. Have you tried any over the counter cough supressents?

Yes, I have tried Nyquil and that does not work for me. My cough is very dry and that is the reason why I am spitting a lot. My mucus is white and that does not seem too normal. Could this just be allergies?

Hi S.Hillery, found your topic here.
Well I would not relate this to an allergy because you would have few more symptoms.
I think this is bronchitis. And the best thing for you would be is to go to a doctor. I'm not sore what over the counter medication you can get for this.
Do you have problem swallowing? You probably will not have to remove your tonsils.

Hi Kelly, can you explain what you mean by pitting? I know that tonsils are removed for size or something like that but I am not aware of pitting. Could you tell me a little more?
