Hi,
since I've been struggling with similar stomach problems for quite some time now, I have a pretty good idea what you must be going through - it's sometimes hard to explain to other people, but when I avoid certain foods ('cause they literally made me cry in past from the pain) even though I could probably eat them without too much consequences now, it's just the reaction I have because of the fear.
The throat sensation you had was caused by the acid rising from your stomach - there's no physical obstacle that would prevent the food from coming down your throat. And as long as you're taking the medications regularly your stomach levels should be OK, so you won't get any bad effects after eating. Also, you can try with smaller meals - that should help you control both your GERD and your weight.
wish you all the best!
