i have just recently quit crack-cocaine since doing it for the past year. i'm not going to lie, it's been one hell of a challenge. but i'm hanging in there. Anyways, my question was how long (estimated) do recovering addicts begin living a functionaling life without the drug.

I am a recovering coccaine abuser. after 2 overdoses, i was finally able to wake up and get off teh sh*t. Yes there is life again after you get off drugs. The hardest part is the next 24-48 hours. you will feel normal again, and after your brain recovers you will feel angry, sad and depressed. it is just a temporary emotional state that you will go through. I am clean now and i am livingmy life normally. yes i do think about it sometimes, but now since it is out of my system i dont feel the urge as much as when i was on it.

I am also a recovering addict.

One place you can always go is to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. NA meeting directories are online. It's comforting having people know exactly what you're going through.

And remember this when you want to get high - you'll just go through withdrawals and all this again if you give in. I went through withdrawals so many times before I actually stuck with it. It's absolutely hell, and to put yourself through it multiple times is insane.

Best of luck
