Is there another forum for this subject of leg spasms/cramping? I notice this thread is about abdominal issues...

I am surprised to find so many people who have suffered the same thigh cramps that I have. I have only been having these for about 2 years, and only about once a month or less often, but everything that everyone has said is correct and describes my pain. I am a 54 year old female, slightly overweight but with no other health problems, and when I have one of these attacks, as with everyone else, it is when I am sleeping. Whenever I wake up (not only with the pain but for any reason) the first thing I have to do is go to the bathroom. That is impossible with these cramps because as much as standing hurts, sitting down is even worse. I literally CAN NOT sit on the toilet. I just have to hold it til the pain stops. The very first time I ever had one of these, my husband called the local hospital and talked to a nurse, who suggested drinking pickle juice. I noticed that a few people have mentioned that in previous letters. I tried it and though I didn't particularly like the taste, I drank a lot of it. Almost immediately I started feeling relief. That is the only thing that I have found that does help. I have tried the stretching by bending forward and it didn't help, also tried the hot baths...can't sit down in the tub! Heating pads or hot packs didn't work with me...nothing has ever helped besides the pickle juice. I sympathise with all of you who have experienced these, I KNOW the pain you feel. Now that I have found this website, I will check it regularly to read other people's input.

Wow, like the rest of you it is good to know you are not the only person out there with this problem. My husband has to shut the windows when one of these thigh cramps gets me in the middle of the nigh. I scream at the top of my lungs, cry, break out in a sweat, am nausiated and wish I could die. These are definitely the most extreme causes of pain I have ever felt.
I take a muscle relaxer when it comes on but they take a while to work. All I can do is stop in my tracks and hold the area where the cramp is and pray for relief. If I even attempt to move a fraction the cramp only intensified. I will try and hot and/or cold packs to see if I get some relief as I have nto tried that in the past.
My mother suffered from these when she had her hip replaced. The nurses were awful labeling her a drama queen. They rushed her out of the hospital so she wouldn't scream and distrub the others. My poor mother couldn't even stand because she had to stay stationary. She had to lay there in pain and this went on for days. Finally at the convelescent hospital they kept her knocked out until they seemed to subside.
I was not getting cramps at that time but it is beginning to sound like there is a genetic link to this.
I wish everyone well. We can all just hope and pray that someone comes up with an answer some day so we can get some relief. It is an awful condition and nobody understand except someone else who experiences it.

I used to get these same inner thigh cramps all the time. Hardly a night would go by without me waking up in sheer agony. It drove me to tears.
Notice I say "used to".
I was telling an elderly neighbour one day about it and she said I should put a large magnet under my mattress on my bed. Of course I laughed. And anyone reading this now is probably laughing too. But, nothing to lose, I gave it a try. I'd never heard of this before, but my husband went and found a huge magnet and pushed it under my mattress and I have not suffered from that since.
I don't know how it worked. I know people will say it's just coincidence, but I was getting these cramps every single night and none since. That must be over ten years ago. I had done nothing else to explain it - no medication, no diet change, no change in any other routine - so in my opinion, the magnet worked.
For everybody suffering from this, it might be worth giving it a try. You've nothing to lose. And trust me when I say this is not a joke or a wind-up. I know how painful these cramps are.

Wow, this is amazing how many others have this problem! Anyone I've mentioned it do ( including my doctor!), just doesn't get that I am not talking about a simple, run of the mill "charlie horse", like what you get in your calf. Granted, I realize those are bad enough....But these inner thigh cramps are like nothing imaginable until you've experienced them. And the fun part for me personally is, usually I get them IN BOTH LEGS at the same time! It's horrible, unlike anything else.
Anyway, as I am reading everything here, I can't help but wonder.... What brought everyone to this website?
Is it because you were like myself, and Googled "severe inner thigh cramps", and found your way here?
Or are some of you in this forum subject for another reason also?
I see the subject of this thread is "undiagnosed abdominal pain". Is there some other common thread that ties all of us that we are overlooking?
Some personal factors for me that may contribute to this are:
Overweight
Diabetes ( diagnosed a little over 1 year ago )
DVT's on 3 different occasions ( I am now on coumadin for life)
Medication ( triamterine )
Okay, I know....I am a real picture of health! But aside from those things, I do actually move around a fair bit, I have 2 dogs that I walk, and a yard and garden I keep up, so I don't think immobility is a factor.
One thing I do know now after dealing with these sporatically for the last 2 or 3 years is that I usually have a sense of when I may have a night ahead of dealing with them. Often times, it's after a day when my legs are very fatigued, like after doing alot of gardening, mowing, etc. Also, I get little preliminary cramping, like in my lower back, feet, calf...... usually when I have a few of those come on in the evening, or just after I go to bed, I can pretty much KNOW that before long, I am going to be woke up with the big doozies in the thighs. Last night, I had 2 attacks of BOTH inner thighs hitting at the same time.
It would be great if we could "compare notes", and see what, if any, other thing we all may have in common that may be causing these.

I have them too. Someone told me I wasn't drinking enough water. I think they are right. I drink sodas all the time which can dehydrate you and not enough water. When I drink more water I don't have them as often.

Hi, I heard from friend of mine that frog jumping is bad for your back or thigh muscles. Is this true? He said that star jumping is better than this. So which is which?
