I have been on birth control pills for almost 5 years. I have never missed a pill, but there have been times when I have taken a pill a few hours later than usual (maximum time was about 5-6 hours late). This is a very infrequent occurence. I generally take my birth control pills within a couple hour range of time daily.

Last month for the first time I noticed that I had some break-through bleeding. It was pink in color and only noticable when I wiped. It lasted a few days then turned brownish in color, but was never enough to wear a tampon. The spotting occurred about a week before my period, and stopped a few days before my period. Then I got my period completely normally and on time. This month I am experiencing the same thing. I have been having the pinkish color bleeding for a couple days and I am expecting my period in 6 days. There has also been a slightly stronger vaginal odor during the spotting, which I would describe as a soy sauce smell. It isn't really overwhelming or anything.

I have been engaging in unprotected sex with my serious boyfriend. Do you think that this spotting is normal or could it be implantation bleeding? Also, I saw my gynecologist about a month before the first spotting incident, and everything checked out healthy and fine. I have recently began taking two new medications, one is for allergy symptoms and the other is a diuretic. Could this change in medications be affecting my spotting? Should I visit the gynecologist again, or continue to wait this out?

Thanks for you advice.
