Is acupuncture a CAM-only technique?

I have been interested in trying acupuncture for my back problems for some time now, but I need some basic information. Is accupuncture considered to be a Complementary or Alternative Medicine (CAM) treatment only? If that is the case, my insurer will not cover it, and there is no way I can pay out of pocket.

Most large health insurers in the United States (like Kaiser) now cover acupuncture, though it is still looked at as complementary medicine. I guess that the best thing you can do is to simply call your insurer and ask, or you could even see if there is anything on their website. Which insurance company are you with?
