We all know that babies tend to drool. What I was wondering is if this serves any purpose? I know that the human body is designed in ways that are sometimes to clever for us humans to even understand, but anyway... What can you tell me about babies and why they drool? Is it healthy for them?

My understanding is that their saliva actually changes its make up when a baby is teething, and that this helps the teeth come through properly. Besides that, teething causes a lot of pain in the gums, and that makes them want to chew on things and move their jaws around, which causes more saliva to be produced, which makes them drool. So I wouldn't classify it as healthy, but just as something that happens, if that makes sense.
