My son is 10 year old and his medical problem is accumulated ear wax. It accumulates very fast and he cleans it all the time. Last time, he hurt his ear a bit while cleaning aggressively. I tried to explain him that wax is not all that bad, but I am not sure he believes me. Is it true that ear wax works as anti bacterial medication?

Outer ear channel is coated with wax, which is a product of the cerumen glands. It has a significant protective role, it is waterproof, it reduces the possibility of the infection occurring and it has also prevents the growth of bacteria. It does have its benefits, it is important to be there, some small amount should be taken out, but not all, it is there to protect us.
