Yesteday I had a stone removed from my ureter and another one removed from my kidney. I was in good shape until about an hour ago. Now I have #10 pain in my kidney and right flank. I have a stent and am on antibiotics, painkillers, anti spasm meds and so on. This pain is as severe as any large kidney stone that I've had and this is the first time I ever had problems after the removal of a stone. I had this procedure done at least 6 times. I can't believe how uncomfortable I am right now and I was going to go to the emergency room until I found this site. I will wait until daylight to see if the pain has decreased and if it hasn't I will call my urologist. This is unbelievable... the pain is so bad that I am breathing through my mouth and pacing the floor. I tried to sleep but that is not possible. Does anyone know if this is some sort of complication or is it just a side affect of the stent?

So happy to read these posts! I felt like I was being silly and that because the Dr did t make a big deal about it I just need to power through the pain. But not to be dramatic, I feel like it's ruining my life. I wake up during the night nearly every hour to go toilet. I'm in terrible pain all of the time, not just when I pee. Working (I'm a purchasing manager which is quite a high level/responsible job) is impossible not only with the pain but the tiredness from being up so many times in the night. I can't see how I wont loose my job because of this! It is due to be in place for 4 months and I'm only 2 weeks in. I'm just hoping the Dr will listen to my pleas and remove it early! This is worse than any kidney infection! Thank you everyone for at least letting me see I'm not the only one feeling like this xxx

I'm in the same situation, my dr told me it would only be in for a week, but he sent me a letter telling me it will be in two months time I'm in so much pain with it and my tummy is so bloated!
I'm really annoyed at them, they told me one week and it's still going on! They didn't tell me it was this painful! I would rather go through child birth again I can't stand up for long periods of time and it hard working with it!

Guys, I had two kidney stones lasered from my right ureter (5mm/3mm), one stone from my right kidney (8mm), and one stone from my left kidney (5mm). I had two DJ curly stents placed in both ureters from my kidneys down to my bladder. Post operation I had intense pain from a blood clogged catheter which was causing my urine/blood to go back up into my kidneys (extreme cramping in my stomach and both flanks). Once the catheter was removed 4 hours later 75% of my painn went away. My stents cause me extreme pain after urination. Kidneys cramp up and stay that way for at least an hour afterwards. I cannot walk without having extreme pain in my flanks and abdomen (bladder). These stents are the devil!!!! I have been managing the pain by taking percocet, drinking plenty of water, and not moving alot (moving slowly when I do have to move). Sitting on the toilet actually does help with some of the pain. I also noticed a reduction in pain after very limited activity for 3-4 hours. Pretty much just take it easy and dont cause the stents to move alot while inside you. I have had renal failure before and the back pain from that is very similar to the pain these stents cause. I feel like my body is rejecting the stents or is stent intolerable. I have my stents removed in 3 days, I will follow up on the change in pain afterwards. As far as bloody urine, I have been urinating dark blood and small clots consistently since my operation 4 days ago. It has just now started to show signs of slowing down. I dont know if all of this is normal, but this has been my experience.

Im going thru the same thing thd Dr . didn't tell me any of this. Im tired of the annoying pain. I had a stent put in then I had the shockwave. The doctor never told me had had another stent put in. He never came and talked to me about the dos and donts and what to look for. It makes me mad. Im an active person and my job is tough. Now I feel like im just a big whiner, but it hurts

Now I have another one on my left bladder so god I hope it doesn't result in the same as last Jan!!! Was in pain till march!!!

I had a 13mm stone removed a week ago (via Ureteroscopy with Laser Lithotripsy). This is my 3rd stone in 25 years and the first time with stents. I did not know I had one this time and I had no symptoms, other than the occasional bloody urine after running.
I have a lot of symptoms now. I have one more week to go with 2 stents in place. They also did a bladder biopsy in an area close to the other ureter, which made the 2nd stent necessary. Said my urologist.
When he first discussed the procedure and placing the stents.with me, he had this curious look on him that made me suspicious, but I brushed it away. I am normally fairly tolerant against pain and discomfort. I learned my lesson.
I went home right after waking up from the procedure. The first night was pure horror. I woke up about 10 times and barely made it to the bathroom. I was basically urinating blood, and the pain towards the end was worse than a kidney colic I spent the first 5 days in bed, moving as little as possible, because lying down flat was the only position I was comfortable in.
Now on day 7 I am still urinating blood, but I am up and working from my home office. The pain in the kidney and bladder areas comes and goes. Lying down to rest always helps. I cannot leave the house for more than 30 minutes for fear I won't make it to a bathroom in time. Walking the dog is about as far as I venture, and they are slow walks. I don't see this changing for another week until the stents come out.
I do remember SWL 25 years ago. I had symptoms and bleeding afterwards as well, but I went home after 2 days and was fine. When I confronted my urologist with my current state of well-bring, he shrugged and said "the vast majority of patients have no or little issues with stents, one even went on vacation to the Caribbean".
I think this must be a myth, based on the other stories that I read here.

Thank you for sharing! I was beginning to feel like I was alone in this. I called my Urologist's office today to complain about how severe my pain is on the right side where the stent was placed and that I now was having blood in my urine every time I urinate which I didn't have the prior 6 days. I'm suppose to get stent out Thursday and let me tell you that it can't come soon enough. She said that the pain and blood were from being more active, which I do not believe. So she said she'd write me to be off work until after stent is taken out and prescribed more pain medication. An hour later I was dying in pain and called back and said this is to unbearable and felt like this is not normal. She told me to go to ER (3pm) instead of office to see if there was an infection and to control pain. I get there and they gave me 1 Vicodin and said they would write me a script. Needless to say, I blew up and said the Urologist's office sent me here and isn't there any kind of test to see why I am in so much pain. They then sent me for an X-ray. Said that stent is in right place. And the cause of the pain is the stent rubbing and causing bladder spasms. Ugggh, I just can't get over how much pain this causes. I've had a total hysterectomy and 2 c-sections and 2 natural births and have never been in this much pain in my life. I just want the f***ing stent out of me!!!
