hi, i took my first b.c. pill this morning (yasmine). About two hours later, i had diherrea, normal? and does that pill still "count"?
Also, i have a very serious boyfriend and we would both like to stop using condoms. How long until the pill will be 99% effective? I heard a month. But does it become 99% effecive on that last day or does it get more and more effective eith each pill, finally stopping at 99%? Once it IS at 99%, he can just cum inside of me, care free?
Finally, my sister was perscribed Seaonale and had no side effects. However, i was given yasmine. I am very very worried about the side effects. Does the fact that her side effects were minimal suggest that mine will be as well? How does metabolism affect the weight fluctuation caused by the pill?
THANKS!!

The doctors say at least a month before you stop using condoms. However, as with any birth control, the pill is not always 100% effective and it is strongly suggested that you do have a back up/second method of contraception. There are many other options out there, and remember that the pill does not protect against any STD's.

I've been on BC (birth control) for 10+ years and I remember having many side effects like you did. This is normal because the pill is changing the way chemicals/hormones are sent through your body. It is normal to have things like headaches (minor), small body aches, diarreah/constipation, among other strange things (read the pamphlet that was inside your BC box of pills) Most of the side effects are small and should go away within the first month or two of taking them or after your body gets used to the pill.
Keep in mind, though, that everybody's body is totally different and will react differently to a different set of chemicals. Having said that, the fact that your sister had minimal side effects with another pill doesn't mean that you will have the same success.
When I first started, I gained a lot of weight. Of course, I was crushed and going crazy! I asked my doctor about it and she switched me to another BC pill saying that the hormone ratio (testosterone/progesterone) was not the right one for me. Since then, I have tried a few different types to find "mine", but now I have it.
An awesome way to find out information is to call 1-800 info lines. Every product now has a 1-800 number somewhere on the box where you can call to have your questions answered. You don't have to give your name and can even make something up like "I'm worried about my friend. she just started taking....."
I found a number that you can call for more info: 1-800-994-WOMAN (very cool!!). Also, here's a website you can check out: 4woman.gov. I got these from the Yasmin website (yasmin-us.com/resources.htm).
Hope that helps and gives you some more perspective!
