I'm a 50 yr old woman and have been experiencing the same symptoms as all below for the last 18 months - pain on waking up in the morning which recedes once up and about, but comes back as a general ache later on in the day if I'm tired or have been particularly active (long weekend walk) or inactive (long day at the computer)

I am fit(ish) - I walk dogs ~1.5 hours every day, also have a desk bound job, also ingest too much caffeine (in tea not coffee - but no fizzy drinks), I self-diagnosed kidney stones a year ago and was found to have v small ones in both but have taken the decision to see how they go rather than take medication for them as they were so small - but I do need to get them re-checked to see what they are up to!
I am usually naturally supple but I do feel I have had a band of inflexibility around the girdle area and have had ever since I have had the kidney pain, I know I don't drink enough water and have a daily fight to ingest more that isn't in tea!

I also wake up with numb fingers and get fidgety legs in the evening - numb fingers I think is because I probably sleep with my arms raised above my heads or across my eyes - I wish I didn't but I'm asleep! I've on and off had fidgety legs and think it;s to do with growing (when in teenage yrs) hormones (teenage years and pregnancies) and hormones (I'm a 50 yr old woman!)

Do you have polycystic kidney disease? I do, that's why my kidneys hurt especially in the morning when I take a deep breath. But lasts all day because I'm standing.

I've had this same pain since I was 16 and I am now almost 40. I have been to several Dr's and have had several lithotripsies. I do suggest to any and all to have yourself checked for meddulary sponge kidney disease. I know this is the main source of my problem and you do not have to have any stones (passing or in your kidneys) to experience this extreme pain.

Hi All,

Read this and am going to try it! I have the same symptoms as many on and off for a few years now. Tried going gluten free and sugar free for several months, which helped many issues for me. Drinking tons of water helps a bit but not always. I also have a gall stone and lately when I get morning kidney pain when I sleep in a bit, I've found that my skin is also itchy. Today its worse as I'm on my period, I'm sick and I didn't drink enough yesterday. Cranberry juice helps me, but I've heard it is possible to over-do-it with this. I don't drink soda or eat manmade sugar- not even much processed sugar at all. One cup of coffee in the morning, 6-10 cigarettes recently, but when this began after my 5th child was born,(I'm 30)I wasn't smoking at all. If I drink a lot of alcohol before bed I know I'll hurt in the morning, but I don't do this very often- haven't drank in a couple of months at all. Joints at night without adequate water make me dehydrated and can add to the morning kidney pain. I find I have no urge to pee while sleeping -no matter how much water I drink the night before and sometimes when I wake I can hardly move until I've voided my bladder 2-3 times. I think its interesting that my husband has the same issue for more than ten yrs. The remedy in the link is bicarbinate soda and water(apparently proven now to help kidneys to the point of reversing kidney failure and not needing dialisys! Worth trying I think and what could it hurt-just baking soda and water- my folks used to give me this if I had painful gas when I was a girl. Good luck! I hope this helps someone.

I know this is more than a year old post but I wanted to reply anyway. I woke up this morning as I always do with painful kidneys for months maybe even a years that comes and goes, it often goes away in the morning and i know it's not back pain. So I then decided to google this question this morning and I found this tread. After I read your post I am always 100% positive or maybe at least more than 75% true. Last week my doctor called me in to discuss the results of my abnormal blood tests and surprisingly I was Vitamin D deficient. Reading this it totally make sense! Thankq for your post!
