If it is a vitamin D deficiency problem that would make sense as to why many people have this pain. I do take D and enjoy the sun. So not sure for me if this is the answer. It is very good to know I am not alone in this.

Try drinking water with pureed half of a whole lemon in the morning.
I had excruciating kidney pain after a few hours of sleep for a few months. I even stopped drinking any liquid at least 5 hours before going to bed. It gave me a few more hours of sleep yet the pain was still there. A few weeks back I started drinking water with pureed lemon for cleansing purposes and the very next morning my kidney pain was barely noticeable! I can now drink liquids even right before going to bed and I'm feeling great in the mornings. No more waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and wait for the pain to subside.
The regimen I follow - a glass of water first thing in the morning, followed by pureed half of a whole lemon (with skin, pith, and some seeds) mixed with water to make about 1 cup, should be consumed rather quickly, then another glass of water. Then I resume my normal life :)
I did a lot of research on this topic, there are a lot of reasons for kidney pain. Also, according to reputable sources, the kidneys can regenerate. So in addition to having lemons, I started taking herbal kidney supplement to help nurse my kidneys to health.
Try the lemons, they might help. Just make sure you don't have ulcers as lemon juice can aggravate them.
Good luck to everyone!

Forgot to tell you that I'm using organic lemons only. Not a good idea to ingest pesticides with the skin of conventional lemons.
I cut lemons into smaller wedges, add a bit of water, and puree in a small mason jar with regular mouth on my old blender base, then add more water to make it drinkable. The drink is sour and bitter, consider it a medicine and drink quickly, then have a glass of water.
I'm celebrating 3 weeks of being kidney pain free today! Still drinking my lemons.

Had the same situation as most of you. Pain in the morning that got better or went away when I got up. No signs of infection so I went to the doc and they did a urine test. Crystals in urine can be an indicator of stones, so they sent me to get a CT scan. No stones, but what they did find was that I had inflammation on both sides of my hip ligaments, or bilateral sacroliitis. In my case it is believed to be caused by hours sitting in poor chairs and poor posture on my part. Also, it could be my bed, which isn't the most supportive. I asked the doc why it would hurt more in the morning when I woke up before peeing and he said that because of the location of the bladder, when it gets full it puts pressure on the inflamed area which increases pain. The typical treatment course is over the counter ibuprofen every 8 hours, or physical therapy if that doesn't work.

Hi there, Also in my 20s. Likely there are multiple diagnoses that brought us together here, but I have to say that what many of us are describing are CLASSIC symptoms of Kidney Stones. The kidneys will hurt most in the early morning which I think is when they build most of their pressure and do their work pushing out sediments, and then after waking early and peeing and moving around the pain subsides a bit, the flank where you only feel pain in one side, well though people will develop stones on both sides of their body they will also regularly find a tendency for one side or the other usually dependant on what side you sleep on etc. Sometimes the pain will just suddenly stop midday because a small stone has succeeded in making its way to your bladder. Cranberry juice as many people are mentioning will help , AZO etc. From bladder out you likely won't feel a thing or even notice it leaving other than feeling like you've been able to fully and satisfactorily empty your bladder for once. Also your blood pressure will usually spike in the days surrounding an evac. If you fail at certain dietary routines like a lot of hydration then dehydration, like alcohol use etc where sometimes your urine is dark and other times its light and you go through a week or two bender of these behaviors you can get a large stone and that you will definitely identify from the ER which you panically throw yourself into to be given the morphine and oxycodone to give your breath back which will be robbed from you as from a mother in labor.
There are many who discount the possibility of stones here despite having classic symptoms for one reason or another, and it's possible these people are actually just misinformed because they don't have any experience with the stones. Some rule them out because their calcium levels are regular but there are at least three main compositions of sedimentary rocks that form in our kidneys and calcium is only one. Someone also mentioned there are even kidney stones that won't really be very visible on an ultrasound due to their composition. Good luck all stay hydrated and be prepared for the day you may have to take your first trip to the ER for some pain management.

Did no one find an answer to this problem? I am currently making the rounds through the rest for it. I went to the doctor with kidney pain. I’ve had frequent UTIs and infections all my life. She was convinced It was a spinal issue and sent me for an X-ray and MRI. Turns out I have Spina bifida occulta. I’m thinking because my bladder fills at night it presses on the exposed nerves in my spine??? Just a theory. After the MRI they suggested I get an ultrasound on none other than my kidney. So I’m back to where I started.

Look into a corn intolerance!!! Citric acid and vitamin drops usually have corn in them. Soy is another possibility. Also, consider that the citric acid has mold in it.
