Hi. I like all the others on here I get these side effects. I also have diabetes and bad kidney issues.

After reading this partictuar blog. I have come to the understanding you are right when you say coffee.
I drink lots off coffee. But the days I do not. I find I don't get woken by the pain.

The days I drink more then one coffee lead to the nights/morning of pian coming from the kidneys.

I study a lot so sometimes coffee is wanted to stay awake and alert to study longer and harder. It's also helps with creation of theory's and music.
But I feel cutting the cafine back is going to help.
Thanks for writing your blog. It's helped me to understand what the issue is. Thanks.

I have the same problem, it is the kidneys flushing out all the toxins, during the night they go into overdrive !

Just remember to drink before going to bed I know it is annoying but a glass before bed always helps with kidney pain, you generally only get kidney pain from alcohol and not drinking enough water. I would know because I had kidney failure and know how kidneys work because of it

I have woke every morning with bad pain in both sides for about two months ( I was told at the beginning of this year by one of the Dr's in my doctor's surgery that my kidney function had dropped' he advised me to stop taking Naproxen )about 7 weeks ago I went back ..but I saw a different Dr in the surgery ( it's hard to see the same Dr, he ordered prostrate blood tests luckily they were negative ) yesterday I spoke to the same Dr Iover the phone I told him the pain in my back and sides were still waking me up, he said it might be muscular pain or arthritis...I was told if the pain was still happening in a month , make another appointment.

Hello. I am 35 years old and of course are starting to notice or pay more attention to what is going on with my body. Every morning for the last 8 months or so I wake up with severe pain in the lower left quadrant of my back. When I stand the pain is worse and when I move my legs to take steps it's almost unbearable. I sit at my kitchen table long enough to drink my daily cup of jo, then when I stand to start my day my back pops in 'several' places where the pain is and almost immediately my pain is alleviated. Not so certain that this is a kidney issue, thinking more along the lines of a disc or spine issue. Any input from someone with similar symptoms that has been treated by a doctor would be fantastic. I feel I'm still rather young to be dealing with such chronic pain. I WILL NOT take pain killers so please don't comment with that!

I read all of the posts here and thought it was very interesting...I can see that there could be a few causes of the same symptoms, so I thought about what could most likely be my problem. You see I used to drink a lot of coffee, but not anymore, I eat exrememly healthy, don't do much exercise but keep busy and active. I am very healthy and was shocked at having anything wrong with me! I just also happen to watch video on youtube about dehydration and thought, hmm maybe I am not drinking enough water? But for the water to absorb you also need natural salt so it actually gets absorbed into the cells..

So this is my conclusion for my pain:
1. I don't drink enough water, apparently I thought I was ok.
2. Dehydration causes your body to lack certain vitamins.
3. It is winter here and I haven't had much natural sun.

If I got my diagnosis wrong then water would also help with a kidney infection, posiblily kidney stones, a UTI, a bowel obstruction, and more, so how could I go wrong?

So I went out and bought vit D, took two, then threw some hymalayan salt in my mouth when drinking my water. Today it is 6.30 am and I have no pain. I will drink more water today because after watching that video the importance of water clicked with me. Now I realise that there are many people around me that are in fact dehydrated. WTF? So simple which annoys me.

Hey get your MD to check you for Interstitital Cystitis.
My GYN discovered I had this when they did my Diagnostic Laproscopy for Endometriosis. And found the IC - IC is a Bladder Condition.

Bladder affects Kidneys. Therefore it's all interlinked. I'm also deficient in Vitamin D.

It's all interrelated. We all must drink more water. & CUT the Caffiene. The sodas & coffee are really bad for our systems.

If you must have a cup of coffee in the am. Make sure to have plenty of water to flush out kidneys by the time you go to bed.
