Having gone through all the tests and the CT scan, final answer from the doctor is that there's nothing wrong with me and I have to resort to symptom management and diet. I cry for the £1400 this journey has cost, but also because something is definitely not right and they can't find it.

Just a quick note, I have had the same morning back pain on both sides in the morning ...AND....have been diagnosed with a severe Vitamin D deficiency. You may be on to something. I am now taking liquid Vitamin D drops and seeing my doctor tomorrow.

I've been having the same problem, to the point that when I wake up, I'm in so much pain that all my abdominal muscles tense up, and it's been causing a lot of back pain throughout the day.
Since I had a kidney infection a few years ago, I thought it was that again, but my urine came back clean.
I talked to a friend at work, and she said she had the same problem for about a year, and then one day woke up with jaundice. She went to the emergency room, and ended up having emergency gallbladder surgery. She'd had gallstones, even though she hadn't had any of the normal symptoms of gallbladder problems, and at night they had been blocking the flow of bile until it backed up.
After months of waking up several times a night in extreme pain and trying various sleeping positions, I tried sleeping on my left side with a pillow under that side, and it seemed to help.
I'm waiting to get into a different doctor, since my last one dismissed my concerns as muscle pain, and told me to take ibuprofen and sleep "in a comfortable position."
I'll post if anything changes.

Sounds very familiar! My kidneys have been doing this since January of 2017. I feel relief awhile after urinating first thing in the morning. I also make sure to urinate before going to sleep at night. I have been to a Urologist , but he had no other suggestions ((since I was infection free) other than musculoskeletal issues (?)

Same thing happened to me, had the same symptoms as the op including difficulty breathing before urination 2 years ago. They couldn't figure it out and labeled me mental. I ended up figuring it out. It is kidney reflux and infection. I've had periodic dehydration issues as an adult. Made it go away by eating a raw garlic bulb with water or orange juice twice a day for a full week. Garlic is a stronger natural antibiotic than amoxicillin, due to its allicin content. You also have to make sure you urinate following ejaculation to clear the urethra and rebalance the pH. Also, DO NOT use saliva as a lubricant for sex or masterbation. The germs in the mouth can make their way to your kidney. I was cured til I did that and I had to redo the garlic to get back well. Bought KY and have been fine.
