Hello...I received a kidney transplant from a living donor who is my friend in Dec., 2011...I am now coming on 3 months post-transplant with few complications. My quality of life has been increased by at least 80% and my friend is well. What an incredible gift!!! I have 2 friends who have had their kidneys for over 16 years. If you are even considering donating...all I can say is that your gift will be revered forever by your friend....it is definitely the best gift anyone could give another human being...LIFE!!!

I received a kindey from a close friend December 1st, 2011. I was in kidney failure from Polycistic Kindey Disease and feeling horrible. In my research and from the hospital in Canada where it was done, the success rate with living donor kidneys is approx. 95%...and the life after is incredible! yes I take rejection drugs, but by the time I got to this point, I had many medicines...so nothing new really. I strongly encourage you to donate to your friend.
That said, my donor is well and back to work after 2 months of recovery. He feels great and is working at a new job.
I understand deeply the gravity of giving your kidney to someone, all I can say is that I believe giving the gift of life is the very best thing anyone could do for another human being!
It will be heart breaking to lose your friend gradually over time to infection and complications a little at a time. Althought there is nothing guaranteed...give him or her the best fighting chance for a full life....

Has your friend started dialysis? If not, I hope she can have alternative therapy other than kidney transplant. The sucess rate varies with different illness conditions. So, what is your friend's condition now?

Wow No family members are compatible, what ashame .You must be a very good friend to even consider being a donor .I dont Know if you believe in God and Jesus ,but im sure that on judgement day he will look at your decision to shorten your life for another human being to be in your favor expecialy if your friend does not believe in him this will give you a chance to warn her of the threat of hell if she does not believe at least you will know that you tried wich beats the way you would feel if you did not or anyone else did not and she passed away.if you or your friend do not believe in Jesus or are of another religion i apologize,a higher Power of some sort I guess would help at least helping you to prepare for what you are considering to do,My heart Goes out to I would suggest having weekly meetings to make sure your friend will have a donor whene the time comes God bless you.

i have polysistic kidney disease. i was on dialysis for hemo dialysis for 6 years, i was on waiting list for kidney 4 years my family could not donate, i just received my kidney 2 months ago, i am doing well so far
my creatin is .06 so far. so if you can help your friend do it, so many things go wrong the longer you are on dialysis, it is worth the risk.
