I am glad to hear of your success. From what ive been reading to many people have TKN failures. I too am suffering with a fail TKN replacement on my left knee. Can't bend it past 78 degrees. This was done in 2004 and have been searching for someone to fix this. Last doc I saw told me the cost benifit was very low and I should just live with it. Well BS... YOU live with it A*&.Hole. These guys just dont get it. I'm thinking that my implant is to big. from what im reading everyone with a flex problem seems to have that issue.
Can you please tell me who did you repair?
Im tired of tripping over the grass, not riding a bike or walking up stairs.
I was a firefighter had to retire early due to this c**p...
Thx

I was in a car accident in November of 2004, and both legs were buried in the glovebox of our car. I have a rod in my left Femur inserted in my hip and going down to almost my knee. I have never had any problem with this rod because it was inserted inside my bone. However, the right leg was considerably more damaged than the left. The tibia and fibula were both broken. I had plates and screws above and below the knee to fix it. After 6 months in 2005, I was still in a tremendous amount of pain, so the doctor removed the plate above my knee and manipulated it, and my leg broke again. I had Arthroscopic Surgery done in 2006 with a different doctor and he said he's been doing this for 20 years, and it was one of the worst cases he had ever seen. Tons of Scar Tissue. Also in 2006, I had Synvisc Injections done with the Arthroscopy Doctor's associate. In 2007, I was referred to a Doctor, who referred me to a specialist. I had a Revision Knee Replacement done, a knee replacement with long posts going up my Femur and down my Tibia. After 3 months, I was still having pain, stiffness, swelling and unable to bend my knee. My Range of Motion is practically non- existent. I had the knee manipulated. Still was the same. In 2008 I had a scar excision surgery, and burned with radiation so that the scar tissue would not grow back, and it all grew back anyway. At that point, this specialist said that he did all he could do. The pain, stiffness and swelling did not change, went to physical therapy for years. My Pain Management Doctor sent me to 3 different doctors for their opinions, and basically no one wants to touch it cause they didn't do the work. One Doctor even called me delusional if I ever thought that I was going to have a normal knee again. I have tried every kind of Pain Medicine out there, nothing helps. Also, the pain medicine made me gain a tremendous amount of weight. Now my Pain Management Doctor gave me a referral for another Doctor, who also said that he does not work on knees that other Doctors put in, but that his brother might. So I make an appointment with his brother. This morning I get a call from the brother's office saying that the brother will be glad to talk to me but, because of my weight, he will not do any surgery. I do not know what to do. It just seems like every time that I think that it might be a possibility that SOMEONE might be able to at least make the pain go away, that my hopes get dashed once again. I just turned 50 years old, I'm assuming I have alot of years to go yet. The pain is getting worse. I try to exercise, but it is just too painful. I do not overeat because the medicine gives me loss of appetite. I cannot bend, kneel, crawl whatsoever. If I bend over, my lower back pains me terribly. One leg seems shorter than the other now, and I cannot bend or straighten it WHATSOEVER, and I have a very noticible limp. I had several X-Rays taken over the years, they say nothing appears loose. But it hurts ALL THE TIME, not just when I'm walking on it, or putting weight on it, even when I'm just sitting and elevating it, or laying in bed. I had to quit work and go on Social Security Disability, I couldn't even take a sitting job because when I sit too long, it gets so stiff I cannot even support myself from falling. When I stand too long, the leg length discrepency hurts both my knee and my back. When I walk on it, especially downhill, I feel like I'm going to fall on my face. I have to walk a flight of stairs one step at a time, followed by the other foot. I have to walk on my tip-toes on my right foot. I tried a heel lift in my shoe, but my dog chewed it apart, I've used stockings and braces, the swelling has been there under my right knee since the knee replacement. I have taken several falls over the past 6 years because my balance and my gait is so unstable. My leg is numb to the touch on the right side of my tibia. Do I have Depression? Yes, I would say that anyone who is in my condition would definitely wind up feeling depressed 24-7. Does ANYONE have any suggestions or Doctors who might consider me as someone who they can possibly help? PLEASE let me know. Thanks.

I also would like to know the name of the doctor who fixed your knee.. It will be 9 years in 10 more days that I have been dealing with this pain and can't take it anymore. As the new guest put earlier this morning, I have to take all kinds of pain pills, which wind up causing more bad side effects than helping out with the pain problems. Please share his/her name, because right now my doctor who did the knee replacement blew me off in 2009, basically told me that there was nothing else that he can do, and all these other doctors don't want to touch it because they did not do the initial work. My son got a puppy a few weeks ago, and he got tangled up in my legs the other day, and I fell straight down on both knees, and I'm still seeing stars till this day. Thanks..

My first tkr was when. I fell in a hole ,the dr. Saw me for a matter of 10 min and told us is surgury appointment lady would come in next.right there I should of known ,that's the last time I saw him in til my surgury date.thats from 6/12/12 til 8/9/12.. He never told me he was goin on vacation, my daughter was getting married 9/22/12, he said I'd be dancing down the isle.well I made it with a cane, since then I've had cellulitis ,right knee meniscus done only to find out I need a tkr on my right also.by ano, ther dr of course.this dr I really liked, he asked while I I was under could he check my left knee out, which never got any better ,swelling ice a lot can't walk etc.so he did the rt knee and replaced the spacers on my left knee, which didn't help much.rt knee is doing fine.ive did months of therapy to find out I owe them 15,000 the insurance didn't pay!now I'm on to the third dr.hes starting from scratch to check things.if anyone went thru this do I have a chance at suing The first dr which I feel did the most damage?

Hi Karen, Can you please tell me how you found this out about the mismatched components? I also had my surgery performed in 2004. I had a revision knee which is a knee replacement with long posts that are attached to the replacement that go through the tibia and femur to hold the attachment in place because they also were broken.. I'm sure that this appliance was home built and did not come standard this way How did you find out it was nerve damage and what other areas of the body received damage? I have an appointment this afternoon to have an MRI done, and am suppose to be seeing a vascular surgeon on Thursday.. any suggestions of questions to ask to see if I may possibly also have nerve damage as well? Please tell me the name of your doctor. Hopes and prayers for you.. Kathy

Had the same thing.Always sore and swelling. Had a second surgeon take a look, he found out that the original was not lined up right. Had the revision done and I am back playing football. both surgeries were done with in 13 months of each other .Back doing what I was before surgery .Some swelling after vigorous exercise.

I spoke to the vascular surgeon today, and he told me that he could almost guarantee that I have an infection in my knee, swollen and hot to the touch. Lower leg is even getting discolored. He said I better start elevating it, wearing support stockings, and contact the original surgeon right away. It's his responsibility since he was the one that did the initial surgery.

I am living in severe intractable pain after having two knee replacements in seven months on my right knee. They both failed!!!! It feels like the Replacement is not connected and its to big and my knee is; swollen, red hot, flexes about 50 degrees-extends ok, but the pain is so horrible that I live in bed. I don't now what to do. Its so severely painful that Im even considering amputation. Did you get helped.

Bamadreams are you still alive? 60 surgeries sounds criminal. I had 2 TKR on my right knee in less than 7 months. Now I'm told that I have Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome. My knee is in nonstop 24/7 extreme pain!!.I don't know how you lived thru all this.

Ok, so here is the deal. After many months and years of undergoing and analyzing this and living with more and more pain over the years. I went back to the doctor who did the initial knee replacement, (which I wasn't happy about that) and he told me, that after running all over Pennsylvania for the last 9 years, that I DO HAVE AN INFECTION, apparently a pretty bad one deep inside the right knee. It's so deep, you can't even see it on an x-ray, or on a bone scan, but it definitely is there on a blood test. However, "The Fix", to repair this, sounds scary as hell. They take the knee replacement out, and put a couple of things called spacers inside where the knee was, and I'm assuming antibiotics in with them, then you have to be in a cast for maybe 2, well, we'll say 4, no, let's try for 6, well, let's say it could be anywhere from 6 to 16 weeks!!! Without a knee, mind you. Remember, I still have 2 grown children, a husband, a house, 2 dogs, 5 cats, and 4 fish to take care of. This is going to be a nightmare.. straight from hell. Everyone says, "Oh don't worry, we'll be over to help you every day, well, we all know how that story goes. Sure, for the first week or two, you get waited on hand and foot if you're lucky, then next thing you know, you are crying and begging for someone to help you, and everyone is yelling at every one else to do it, pretty soon it's one big disaster after another. Not to mention the Constant "No-Relief-In-Site Pain" that comes along with it. Well, I'd had better get ready for it. Today is January 2nd, Pre-Admission testing is January 10th, and the Surgery is January 30th. I still have to have Dental Clearance before next Friday, and I just had a 10 centimeter cyst and my right ovary removed on December 16th with my Gynecologist, with a follow-up appointment on December 31st. I have an appointment with my Pain Management Doctor on January 3rd, and another with my Family Doctor on January 8th. Plus, had to do Christmas for our family and my 5 grandchildren with no help. I even asked my mother if we could just do Thanksgiving at her house this year because I just didn't have the time between running around to all of these doctors to prepare for that this year, and she told me that she's 79, and not "up" to doing it this year. Oh well. What's more thing on my plate? I have doctor bills coming out of my eyeballs, and as of yesterday, January 1st, thanks to our wonderful president of the United States of America, my Health Insurance is now changing from 80%-20% for In-Network Doctors to 60%-40% for In-Network Doctors to a whopping 50%-50% for Out-of-Network Doctors, which is what my doctor for my knee just so happens to be. Looks like I'm going to have to start begging for Charity Care to get this knee fixed, either that or looking for a Rich Sugar Daddy! Sorry Folks.. I'm ranting..... It's just that I don't know which way to turn anymore, do I pay some of these Doctor Bills, or pay a Mortgage Payment and charge cards? Plus, the Electric, Phone, Cable, Cell Phone, Internet, Car Insurance, Home Insurance, Taxes, Water/Sewer/Garbage, Oil, Kerosene, etc. etc. ? And where along the line can I afford to put food on the table? How do you pay for Christmas with 4 children, a husband, 5 grandchildren, and 2 in-laws? Plus, where do Prescriptions fall into place there? 50%-50%, as well? I'm unable to work at a job, because of all of my medical problems since 2004, I got to go on Social Security Disability and, although I had to fight like crazy for it, am damn lucky I got it because of my age. My husband is the only one in the household working Full-Time. My 30 year old son lost his job last year when he had a stroke due to a heroine overdose, and now has fibermyalgia, has absolutely no income, unable to qualify for Social Security because of his age, Unable to qualify for Welfare for God knows what reason? Not even medical, so they can take this Obama Care and shove it up their a%&*&&, and these County Workers for welfare, you would think that people who are recovering addicts like my son are trying to rip the money out of their own pockets the way that they treat you, that just because you are down and out does not mean that you are stupid too. My 20 year old daughter wanted to go to college, but unfortunately, does not have the funds to cover it, even community college, so she was lucky to be able to obtain a part time job at a Mexican restaurant. She has to pay her own car insurance, repairs, inspection, registration and gas, but we do still pay her cell phone bill, although we're not happy about that. We just don't have the extra to help her out with college. Neither one of them can afford to pay any Rent, or help out with the food bill. With a part time job and no job with the other, they will never be able to live out on their own, and I am not the type of parent that can just kick her kids to the curb, but I'll tell you.. I'm scared, and they need to be scared as well. I know that this site is suppose to be for people who have pain from their botched up knee replacements, and any kind of advise that others in similar situations can give them, but this is also a place that people are dealing with real life, and I'll tell you, if anyone out there can help me figure out how to deal with my "Real Life" Situations, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! If anyone needs advice and real help to deal with reality right now, it's me....

I had a knee replacement four years ago and on 11-4-13 I developed a severe infection in the knee, they operated, flushed it replaced the plastic parts and tried to determine the bacteria, unfortunately nothing grew, therefore the infections disease dr put me on 8 wks of infusion antibiotic treatment. I now have to wait 3 weeks to see where my lab results are, if the infection seems to still be a problem they are going to want to take the knee completely out and put a spacer with antibiotic treatment in its place for 6 weeks then a new knee replacement.
anyone hear of such a thing happening? anyone have this procedure done ? if so, please share your experience
Thank you
Chana
