My boyfriend and i started having sex about two weeks ago... my period was about 5 days late but ended up coming three days after sexual intercourse. The proper bleeding lasted the usual 4 and a bit days and there was still the usual spotting. After the spotting had stopped, We had sex again.. I didn't feel i was ready to do this again so it only lasted about ten seconds. That afternoon, there was a light brown discharge... it lasted for about 2 days. It wasn't heavy and seemed to only appear every few hours. I haven't seen any since last night but I have been feeling sick. I think that I have been worrying myself.. its more like butterflies in my stomach more than anything. I just want to know what's wrong with me. I have a feeling it is just my body reacting to a whole new thing, but I'm still not completely sure. Thanks :-)

First of all, actual chances that you get pregnant three days before your period, even if it was a bit late this month, are very small. Your fertile days are some two weeks counted form the first day of your period and these fertile days last 2-3 days. Did you use any kind of protection? I believe you are well aware yourself that excitement and anxiety about this important event that you experienced can affect your period – it was little late, after all. Brown discharge means that there was some old blood or tissue still left from period and your body was getting rid of that, it happens often. It will get to normal by the time for next period.

Thanks. Before we actually did have sex for the first time though, there were times where we would 'muck around' and is it possible that if he had a bit of sperm on his fingers i could still be pregnant? There hasn't been any extra discharge for a whole day now though which is good i guess?? We did not use a condom but he pulled out long before he fully ejaculated but i know that's not the ideal way. Im definitely going to make sure that we don't have sex without a condom again. It's caused me to stress way too much, although i know its almost impossible for me to have got pregnant after what we had done.. If the discharge comes back again before my next period what should i do?

Of course the best option is to use condom, but also if you keep in mind that biggest chances to get pregnant are during 2-3 days in the middle between two periods. If you’re extra safe then you can be able to enjoy without stressing over it afterwards because weird stuff like late period or spotting can happen for many reasons anytime. It’s really possible that this discharge happened because of the sex – it didn’t have to be extra rough for some vaginal tissue to get irritated. If that was the case it shouldn’t happen again. So, I don’t think you’re pregnant now – sperm can’t survive for long on the outside and it’s not easy at all for it to get inside you just from hands. If discharge comes again before period, or again next month you should go and see a gynecologist or ob-gyn just to make sure what it is. It’s probably because your hormones are little of balance now, but better to hear expert opinion than to worry.
