My doctor has told me that I have a lump on my xiphoid process, which can be seen on an x-ray. They have not yet made any diagnosis and are going to run some tests, but I am worried. Could this in any way be serious? I hate to mention the C word, but could this be cancer?

We are far too far away to be able to make any useful comments about what the lump on your xiphoid process could be, but one of the things that comes to mind is that it might have fused together incorrectly. Fusing usually occurs around 25 years of age, and I guess that if you were involved with any sports at that time, you could have damaged the xiphoid process in some way. It could be harmless.

Well, I am only 30 now and I have always been an active person, but never had any significant sports injuries and certainly not in that area. I am not sure if this could have anything to do with it, but I am still glad to hear that it could be something completely harmless! Thanks for your post!

What was the result of this scan? Seems like nobody has talked about results of scan and what they found out. :-) Everybody asked the questions. It would be nice to get feedback to the questions as well :-) Thanks!

I just had an exray today with the same problem...a lump.  My Dr. x-rayed and said it was nothing.  I am still concerned.  He said I was born with it like that...but why am I just discovering it if I was born with it.  Should I get a second opinion?  I do not wish for trouble....but I do not want to be mislead if it is something.  What should I do?

Hi, I've had the same scan today and they found the same thing as you. I'm slim and noticed the lump by accident yesterday and got it seen too immediately. I'm waiting for the results, i am worried. What were your results?
