I wrote earlier that my daughter is on 10 mg methadone w/o the blocker for spinal damage and nerve damage to her back from a prior car accident. She is also 4 to 6 weeks pregnant and so fearful of birth defects. She is currently as we speak going to a open health dept., to ask for advice. No one will tell me anything on the phone except to go to an emergency room. But she has stopped taking it, and is now in constant pain. She has to use the bathroom alot and her stomach hurts. Every part of her body hurts and she is very sensitive and upset. After everything I read, it appears that it is more important to NOT stop taking the drug than to risk miscarrying by stopping. Yes, there is a chance of withdrawals to the baby, but that seems liveable rather than losing the fetus. PLEASE help answer this question! Is she safe and the fetus and should she stay on her 10 mg dose? She won't even seek prenatal for fear of DHR or DSS trying to take her baby. She needs the pre-natal. I know. I had three kids naturally. I've never been on methadone. I can't take it. I have permenant damage to my back and nec, and have been disabled 5 yrs now. But I'm on lose dose percocet and soma. Our's is completely different situations. What should she do? She has not been going to a Dr. She has been buying her methadone from a friend. She cannot afford a Dr. And doesn't want to go to a clinic for fear of a higher dose. Thank-you!

Hi, iv read about u & ur daughters situation and have tto say that she should defo keep takin the methadone but it would b better goin to the docs & explaing situation to them! I was a heroin user for 10 years & after begging for help for 6 years & gettin passed back n forth got nowhere until i was arrested for a drug offence & passed on to arrest refferal services who got me put on meth quick & stabalised & were great to work with & now after being only on my prescribed methadone for a full year have been passed to a new moving on service but now iv found out im pregnant too & couldnt be happier at 30 years old except the methadone situation!! iv knew friends who were on hard drugs whose baby badly withdrew but alot of girls who stick to their prescribe meds have had healthy happy babies, some with no withdrawls at all!! ur daughters doc/ midwife will be understanding as they have to do whats best for baby & if she doesnt tell them herself they will find out eventually which could b bad & may end up with social services getting involved!! Tell her to think about whats best for her & baby, its only a small amount she takes which i dont believe will leave baby in much discomfort if any at all & she isnt using methadone for a stone or a high so im sure she as herself worried/worked-up for something thats basically nothing!! GOOD LUCK TO U BOTH (3) X
