Thank you so much for sharing this info with all the women who are experiencing the same symptoms. I have had the Mirena IUD for three months now, and yes I have been feeling very down, with mild depression, crying, and suicidal thoughts!! Very scary.

People generally write reviews when they have a bad excuse. Doesn't mean its a horrible thing. All of the issues women have had with this iud I had with the pill.

I really hope you figured this out, I know it's years later. Try DeproProvera. Immediately.

I am on my second Mirena IUD - i had my first fitted after my 3rd child in 2002 and had it replaced after 5 years. Yes  I have a lot of the symptoms other posts have been describing but I put them down to pre-menopausal symptoms.  Yes I have put on weight and do no seem to be able to lose it but I think that comes with age.  Yes I have experienced panic attacks but again put that down to age, confidence issues and change in family life!  As we get older certain things happen to our bodies and all bodies react differently to different things, I think it is wrong to assume that it is the IUD causing these problems perhaps some of you should take a closer look at other influencing factors and stop looking for a scapegoat!!  This IUD has been great for  me I have no periods, PMS and have not had to worry about an unwanted pregnancy.  Overall I think that it is  great for women who have a family and no longer want to have any more children or to suffer the monthly pain of a period.  Some of you should look up the symptoms of menopause - they are very similar to some of the symptoms you are describing!!

I just got the Mirena IUD removed after 5 years and it feels like the weight of the world has lifted off my shoulders. I've had painful cramps since I was 13 years old and it totally relieved the cramps. However, with cramps you can take ibuprofen, exercise a little and change your diet and they're gone in 2-3 days. I could've withstood the cramps better than panic attacks, depression, suicidal thoughts, moments of unexplainable anger, and bouts of crying. I also gained 20 pounds that I've just started to lose. I should've just stuck to condoms but my husband didn't want to use them. After the doctor removed it, I was never so happy to get my period. I immediately felt a sense of peace - now I'm slow to anger, calm and generally upbeat. I also feel lighter. It was a horrible experience and I should've had it removed sooner. I'm so sorry others had to go through the same thing I did but I hope this will be a warning to those who are trying to make a decision to use this device. Don't!

I have had my Mirena since March of 2008.  It has been a really great form of birth control for me, as I have a horrible time remembering to take pills and every form of chemical birth control (pills, patch, shots) have really messed up my system.  I have enjoyed having a light period only once every few months and it's possible that the Mirena may have contributed to my acne, I have always struggled with my skin, so I can't be sure.  Now, I have a question for those who have used the Mirena before: I am reaching the end of my IUD (it should come out in March of next year, only about four/five more months) and all the sudden I am having severe PMS symptoms.  I get super emotional, depressed, anxious, angry and just want to cry all the time.  It's affecting my entire life and making me crazy.  The only thing I can think of is that as I get close to the end for the IUD it's reacting differently with my body.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Or am I nuts?  I'm thinking of having my IUD taken out a few months early, since I can't function like this and giving my body a few months to resettle itself before I get a new one...

When nearing the end of your first IUD, did you have worse PMS than the rest of the time? I mean the emotional parts, anxiety, irritability, etc?

I've had mine in since December 2011 and now I have random hives all over my body, my hips ache severely, and regretfully I've had horrible diarrhea and back in October 2012 I had excruciating pain in my abdomen and went in and had a bunch of "unexplained fluid" in my uterus... I'm not sure if it is the Mireana but i honestly haven't changes anything else?!
Anyone have some knowledge to share?

sorry i cant offer any advice on the rest but the not getting ur period thing is nothing to be worried about. Its suppose to happen with the mirena. Women do not have to get their period to be healthy.
