Hi, a week ago I had protected oral sex. Five days after I got a sore throat and nasal congestion and my tonsils were full of white pus. The doctor did a throat culture and blood tests revealing that I have mono infection. Can mono be related to oral sex?

I don't know anything about mono other than it is known as the kissing disease, as you said you were protected what make thing even more complicated. Your symptoms sound consistent with mononucleosis, but maybe you didn’t get infected that time, but some other time. Epstein-Barr virus , which is responsible for developing mononucleosis, can be present in the body without signs of infection for some time or even forever. I suppose you were infected before, but you didn’t even know about it. Generally, mono is spread by close contact through saliva and other body fluids.

Mono has to be in your system for at least 4 weeks before you show symptoms. The mono had to have come from another source much earlier.
