A week after having an mri of my spine, I started my period. This was 10 days early for me and I am super regular 28 day cycle. I hope someone does some research into this!

Dec 15, 2015, Went for MRI on Lower Back. Before test my back was unusually NOT painful that morning and my periods had stopped for 3 months, I'm 51. When testing started horrible stabs and shooting pain started and I barely managed to get through it. Couldn't stand after and had to take pain meds immediately. Next day entire lower to mid back area felt beat up and had to continue with pain pills and stayed in bed. Next morning a heavy period started. MRI did something.

I just had an MRI with contrast yesterday on my brain. I'm 52 yrs old and have been in menopause for about a year and a half with no period whatsoever. This morning I woke up to spotting and it's getting worse as the day goes on! It's either the magnetic field or the contrast. Did all of you have contrast? I suspect the magnetic field by not sure which one did it. I know this MRI with contrast caused it!!!!

Update: MRI showed only slight bulging discs. The intense paim I felt during the MRI continues and even though period gas stopped again my lower abdomen and back through hips has increased pain.

I had a 3T MRI with contrast done on my brain a little over a week ago. The next day I awoke with terrible cramps and have had an extremely heavy and long ( at least for me) period of a full 7 days, which is just now showing signs of letting up. While this may be normal for some people this is very abnormal for me, especially since I take birth control that often causes me to skip periods, and when I do have them they are very light m

My mom got a MRI for her head. As she wasn't feeling good before her appointment, I wanted to go into the MRI room with her. First I informed the nurse that I had an IUD. He said I should be fine. My mother's procedure lasted twenty minutes. I was sitting seven feet away. In the last three minutes of the procedure when the machine sounded a bit like a heavy metal band playing near a running train, I started to feel nauseous in my tummy and intense heat where the IUD should be. We left the room, and I told my mom I didn't feel well. Actually I felt weak. I also continues to feel heat in my lower abdomen. Anyways, 5-10 minutes later, I went to the bathroom and saw that I was bleeding. I got very scared that the MRI+IUD hurt my reproductive organs and I started to cry. Even as I was crying, I wondered if the MRI had heated up the IUD, which triggered an early period (I'm on day 25/26), which caused a very sudden fluctuation in my hormones (pms). ( I am 31 years old.) Immediately afterwards, I went to my family doctor who told me that the MRI couldn't have triggered it. I then talked to a family doctor friend who also told me that it was definitely due to stress and travel. Perhaps I'm an paranoid, but I still think it is more that a coincidence because when I go through airport security, I sometime get this lingering feeling of heat too.

Had my yearly Abdominal/liver MRI last night with contrast. Never noticed anything strange after them before, but I have had extremely irregular periods over the past few months - to the point I thought I was going through early menopause. Anyway - my last period, first one in months, was only 19 short days ago, and prior to the past few months I was always regular 26 Days - so when I got my period last night within an hour after the MRI, I though it was odd. Googled it and came to find all of these examples from other people........I wonder if there is any medical/scientific reason or if it is just a coincidence.....

I had a MRI on my knee yesterday at 1130 am, woke up this morning 4 am bleeding. I am on my 2nd Mirena and have not had a period for years. I wish I had been warned about this before hand cause I probably would have skipped the MRI!
I cannot go thru having this and pray to God its a one time fluke of the MRI.

I agree - I have had menstrual cycle changes 3 times now with MRI. In my case they came earlier (ten days to 2 weeks earlier!!) and are heavier, more like fresh blood, and crampy. Just had 2 MRIs one week apart for spinal issues and am bleeding heavier than I ever have... I'm going to calmly notify the department and suggest they begin to keep track of women's cycles post MRI at their hospital; needs to be documented and analyzed.

I'm glad I looked up this issue and found all of your previous posts! I was getting worried. I had an MRI with contrast done a month ago and now I'm two weeks late for my period. The only difference in my life was the MRI.

Hi everybody. Glad to find this post, so I am not alone. I am 40. I had my MRI of the lower spine on 06/29/16, then got my early period 8 days after the MRI, which is 2 weeks from beginning of my last period, very early, which never ever happened to me, I am usually overdue. It looks like MRI can affect cycle routine. Wow!
Stay spiritually positive, everyone. xo

I had a knee MRI on Saturday afternoon. I had just finished my period about 10 days prior. Sunday morning I woke up with what I thought was food poisoning (upset stomach, cramping, etc). There was some spotting Sunday evening and this morning (monday) I started...and not just a little spotting. I am 43 and premenopausal and I bled more today than I have in my last 4 periods combined. WTF?

I am glad I found this, but still quite confused and worried!
I had an MRI today of my thoracic spine and cervical spine... I just finished my period about 3-4 days ago. I had my scan this morning and now in the evening I went to the toilet and was shocked to see blood in my underwear! I am really confused and can't find any information about this online other than this post. Freaking out a little, I am assuming everything is ok!
