I just got an MRI on May 10, 2017 with contrast dye and within a couple of hours I got my period. This was weird to me because I just had my period 2 weeks prior of getting the MRI. Is there any explanation for that?

This has been a very comforting thread to read, but also disturbing as there seems to be a connection yet doctors insist there isn't? I had an MRI on my knee more than a month ago, on the day of ovulation (I track mine) and I swear it triggered a second ovulation, making my period start a week later than usual (35 day cycle, I'm normally around 29). However on the day I should have started, I started having pains, and had pains every day until the bleeding finally started. My next period, which I just finished, came ten days early! So I went from a 35 day cycle to a 19 day cycle. This is very unusual, plus my weight seems to have fluctuated up more than usual. How long before things go back to normal??? granted I'm having knee surgery soon so that may throw things off again. Sigh.

I am so glad I found this post! I had an MRI yesterday morning and by afternoon I was spotting. My period isn't due for a week. I now feel all heavy like my period should be happening but isn't. So weird.

I am 46, no menapause yet, had normal period (which are always very very heavy) a week before my knee MRI with contrast. I did not have the iv contrast, they just injected it into my knee. Started spotting 2 hours later and now have had light bleeding for 3 days now. This has got to be related! I know we cant all be crazy!!

I posted a year ago in this thread, had my yearly abdominal MRI this past Tuesday evening, same thing happened, period not due for at least another week and a bit, and I am very regular) and sure enough it arrived today......very early and I had felt slight bloating ever since MRI.....I had forgotten all about my post here from last year, until I started bleeding this morning........there is definitely a correlation between the MRI test and early onset of menstruation, I am still curious as to the science of why? 45 years old.

Hi, this happens to me once a year right after my annual MRI, with contrast. My period comes almost immediately after, irrelevant of where I am in my cycle, and then for the next month or two it won't be bang on regular like it normally is, I honestly thought last year I was pre-menopausal (44/45) but now I am convinced it's the MRI that screws it up. In a few months everything goes back to normal. I just wish someone would explain why it happens????? I am very curious. All the best with your surgery!

I had a breast MRI with contrast yesterday morning. I am on day 15 of my cycle, which is usually normal. and have some abnormal spotting today.

Like most of you, I am happy to come across this thread but confused as to why there's not much else literature out there acknowledging and explaining why.

I had an MRI for the first time yesterday for gallstones (they think one is stuck in my bile duct) and within a couple of hours I seem to have started my period, despite being on cerazette (progesterone only contraceptive pill) and not having had a period for over 3 years. There seems to be nothing on line to explain why, except this thread!

I am always on time with my period and now after a ct scan and mri 2 weeks apart i am about 2 weeks late. the fact that so many persons are asking the same question clearly there is an adverse effect of these dyes they inject into persons bodies. I prayer to God my bodies gets back to normal

I too had a CT with contrast last night to see if i had blood clots in my lungs. Nothing was detected other than gallstones. Period was set to start in 4 days. While i was waiting on the results I had a weird period cramp sensation. When i got home i had some spotting. My periods are usually very heavy with large blood clots due to fibroids. I'll keep an eye on it to see if anything changes other than the timing and post an update.
