This same thing happened to me. I’ve been in menopause for over a year, and after having the MRI, I now have started my period and the pain in my back and stomach is horrendous. Especially my back.

Wow! I was just googling like mad trying to find a connection between MRI and Periods. I had my first MRI with reactive dye on 27th September. My cycle was around a week or so late and came on the 18th October- and was very heavy and painful, but so heavy I didn't realise I had bled through within an hour which has never happened before. And now it is Dec 4th and still no sign of this cycle. I am 42 and was thinking am I going through the pre menopause stage all of a sudden.... So weird. Hopefully we can do some more searching...

Just had my second MRI yesterday morning. I had very sharp pains in my lower abdomen last night and this morning began a very heavy period with clots and terrible cramps. When I cough or laugh that sharp pain returns. 4 years ago I began an MRI and felt horrible pain in my lower abdomen and made them stop the test. For weeks I bled way too much, no one believed me. They kept sending me home telling me I was having a heavy period. The pain was so severe and I was pale from blood loss. Finally a woman doctor believed me, my copper IUD had lodged in my uterus during the MRI. She found some are made in China and can contain nickel. I thought because I no longer have the IUD this time would be okay. I am in shock reading all of these cases. How can we get them to study why this happens?

I believe it is from the iodine used. Iodine can affect your thyroid. Your thyroid gland regulates hormones. This is my best guess. Had the same thing happen to me.

On 2/28/18 I had a pelvic MRI. I had a heat and burning sensation on my lower abdomen during the MRI and I asked the tech about it. She said that it gets a little warm sometimes. A couple hours after I got home I had abdominal pain and started my period. Keep in mind that I typically only have 2 or 3 cycles at this point in my life and typically no pain. February has not been one of the months for my cycle, in the past, and this was painful for the first 2 days. There is no way that this is not correlated.

Hi there, wanted to add my experience for others going through the same. Have had two MRIs within the last four months. I was suspicious after the first one because though showing all my usual signs of late PMS (heavy abdominal cramps, etc) my period was two wound up being two weeks later. This time, I had the MRI on day 5 of my cycle. My period finished up normally on day 7 but now day 9, I passed a large clot and am experiencing heavy, early period bleeding. I have had extremely regular cycles (28 days) for the last 25 years and have NEVER had abnormal menstrual bleeding. Will also inform my doctor and see about this issue being researched further.

good evening i am 29 years old and on Monday i went to get a mri brain scan with contrast and when i left out of there i went to the restroom and when i did i wiped there was blood no one there could understand and looked so confused when i explain that it was three weeks to early for my period. So i called my husband who was upset because i was upset. i also called my mom how work with/ in a dr office with different drs who said their medically opinion is to call my gyn because that is not normal. Well i did and i made a appointment for the Monday coming well on that Thursday  my so called period was so much heavier and i started seeing big clots coming out also. So i called my gyn back and she said that she wants me to come to office, they give me a couple of cups to go home with to get samples and told me not to wear any tampons she wants to find out whats going on because apparently i am not the only women who has come in the office with this complaint. So i guess we will see from here....  I will keep yall updated

I had a CT scan with contrast on 3-1-18. No period when due on 3-14-18. Had pink discharge for a week a week later. Negative pregnancy tests (urine/blood) and ultrasound. Still no period as of 4-14-18. I was very regular up until the ct-scan, except for a weird double period in January. I had all thw symptoms of pregnancy too. My fiancé and I are trying to conceive, so this is frustrating. Good news at least the ultrasound showed I had recently ovulated.
