For about two days my shoulder joint has been hurting quite a lot, but not so that it is unbearable. It feels like when you lift your arm up for such a long time that after a while it starts to ache. But I haven't been lifting my arm up at all. My mum suggested its a growth spurt (I'm 15), but I'm not sure if it's possible to get a growth spurt in my shoulder :S

Hi:
It may be a growth spurt, but it is more likely an injury. If you are an athlete, you should have this checked immediately for the sake of your
future in sports. Don't let this go on. If this is an injury and you let it go on, you could create a life-time of problems with your shoulder. I'm sure that your mom will get you medical attention if she know that this is a real concern for you. Take care and let us know how you are doing and what you find out.

Actually it is possible to have a growth spurt in your shoulder depending on your gender. I actually had a growth spurt in my shoulder as my chest was broadening but I am a man. If you are not, then that would be a little unusual. I think that it'd be best to have your arm checked out just to make sure that everything is okay. Ask your mom to take you so that you can have it looked at to make sure. Keep us posted on how it goes!

What have you decided. Have you continued to play with the pain or are you waiting to see a doctor. Please let us know what you are thinking so that you can share with the many athletes who have this same difficult decision to make. I hope that you have made a decision that will effect the long-term and not the short-term. Please let us know what's going on with you now.

I have the same issue. I hurt my shoulder during ballet because I twisted it wrong, or something. It's not extremely painful, but only if my elbow is in line with my shoulder or higher. I don't think that my mom would pay for me to go to the doctor. She didn't exactly believe my arm was broken until my dad took me in. So yeah, who knows? I will see how it goes.
