My daughter got her first period but it is the ninth day and it is still bright red and heavy. She bleeds through every pad and has to wash out her pajamas when she wakes up. Since every woman is different, I am trying not to compare her cycle to mine, but I am really starting to get worried that something might be wrong. Does anyone have an experience similar to this that could give advice on whether or not I should rush her to a doctor? I want to make sure she is taken care of, but I don't want to overreact and embarass her. I would appreciate any advice I can get.

When I got my first period, it was very heavy and lasted for a dreadful 10 days! I do believe that the first period is not indicative of periods to follow, and she probably is A-OK. However, because she got her first period, it probably would be a good idea to take her to the doctor & make sure everything is healthy.

My first period lasted 13 days. I bleed like a stuck hog and had severe cramps.Im fifty now and no longer have them. I always bleed 8 days and had cramps bad. The only thing that helped me was birth control pills. My parents didnt take me to the dr but if i had known they could have helped i would have gone.
