Wow - that's crazy scary. I'm going in for mine in 2 12 weeks. Where was yours done? How much did you know about the surgeon beforehand?

Hello. Can you please tell me the name of the procedure for the skin tag removal. I just had the surgery and I'm highly disappointed that the skin tag did not get removed. I was under the assumption it was. Any information on your skin tag removal surgery would be very helpful. Thank you

Hmmm... that is a good question. I have these as well. My surgeon told me that they can be removed, but the procedure is very painful and hence he strongly suggests against it. Unless they are a huge issue. Personally I am not a good patient, so pain free is always my preference. The reason being as they are laced with nerves and in the sensitive part of your bottom. Check with your surgeon or even ask your GP, but that is the feedback I was given. Good luck!

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share my experience with my THD procedure that I had 4 days ago. To be honest I was terrified to have the procedure after reading some other folks experience. I will be short and to the point. I am so glad I did this. I had suffered from painful class 3 internal hemis for years. As a triathlete and marathon runner, I had to quit the sports i love because I got tired of the pain and bleeding. 4 days after the procedure, I feel like a had a surgery in a tender region, but I feel great. The pain is almost non existent and I am on my road to healing. So glad I did this surgery. Do yourself a favor and don't read anymore review on the procedure-it can scare the hell of out of you.

I so worry about it's a new hemorrhoids. Read a lot comments in this website but not much friends mention about this . Can you tell more about your 'skin tag' thing? Thank you.

Hi. I am 39 yr old mother of 4 in the US. Pretty active working out a few times a week. Would get external hemmoriods flareups that would hurt bad and if didn't rest to get them down would sometimes bleed. Until my current MD...other MRs would say I'd just manage them as other procedures are too painful...but my current MD was like you are too young to just have to manage this. I know of a great surgeon who can help you.

So I had my procedure done this past Thursday for external hemmoriods that were in a bad spot for any in office procedure. I was nervous as had read all of these posts and just in general.

My only pre-op instructions were to eat light day before, no eating/drinking/chewing after midnight and to do a fleet enema an hour and half before. This had me almost more nervous then the procedure as had never done an enena before. It went okay though.

Was scheduled for 11:30 moved to 10:30 day before and ended up actually having it done after Noon. Not sure what happened guessing surgeon got behind. They gave me general anthesia but said was twilight and numbed the area which said would wear after in a day or two after.

It seemed to go fast. Most of rest of day was home to bed and resting. My husband came in with stool softener, pain meds and Metamucil when/as Dr had instructed.

It seemed later on Friday when numbing, wore off and pain really kicked up. I switched to Advil instead of the pain meds gave as didn't seem to really help. It was cododene I believe they prescribed. Figured would help with when had first bm if switched off and why take them if not helping more then OTC medicine might. Stuck to soup and more liquids that day. By Saturday just felt uncomfortable, just overly full due to no bm...started having some gas which would hurt a bit but helped some of fullness. That day ate salad had Thai food for dinner but no spice. Also had a glass of white wine.

Sunday morning finally had first bm. Very very loose and hurt but more burning then pain can have like first bm after giving birth. Supposedly there was a "plug" that should have came out with first bm. Never saw but assume it did or hopefully.

Had a couple tiny loose bms since then but nothing major.

Talked to surgery center today. The nurse said could adjust the Metamucil if too loose but of course don't want to make things hard. Drs post op was pain meds as needed, Metamucil 2 times a day for a week I think and stool softener 2 times a day for 2 weeks or maybe reversed (not in front of sheet), have ointment to apply externally that is almost Vaseline like, tucks pads as needed and of course hydrate hydrate hydrate.

It does seem to have worked great as wipe and feel no bumps like used to. I would say I am at 70%. I can walk around although too long then need to rest from pressure but then sitting, reclining or laying for awhile seems to be the same. But it's not been a week so figure that will pass in time.

So far I'd say its well worth it.

GM that is great news. Having some of your exact symptoms. My bleeding has got so bad my hemoglobin is 8.2. Normal for men is around 13-14.
Going for the surgery a week from tomorrow.
Reading your story has given me some relief.
Thanks

Hello, I just read your hemmorrhoid journey and was wondering how you are going now. I have a milder case I think however still prevents me from living a normal life. I've had them for about 18 months now and I've reached the stage where I must do something about it . I'm hoping all is well with you.
Regards
Mark

I'm post op THD 4 days, the pain from this op for me was completely off the scale, pre op I have had rectal bleeding for 5 years which recently got to the point of me bleeding so profusely that blood would be poring down my legs in the bath after having a BM and wouldn't stop until I clenched my cheeks and layer in the bath, this would also be accompanied by 4 hours of pain that would not stop unless I layer down for this amount of time, needless to say it was time to get an op, previously I had 3 minor ops injections banding and so on, which did nothing but waste time and allow the situation to get worse. So I was booked in for THD, the surgeon didn't even recommend an enema before surgery, big mistake, I woke up from surgery out of GA in agony, was prescribed paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain relief (what a joke) and sent home, once the local anaesthetic wore off I was in big trouble, I needed a BM as well, I can't describe to you how painful this was. I spent the next 16 hours in the baths gritting my teeth in agony till I just couldn't take it anymore and called the out of hours doctor for something strong, I had Tramadol in the cupboard which I took, didn't work, I by 8am when the pharmacy opened my wife got me the Oramorph I had been prescribed. Finally the hell was over, relief, pain was still enough to stop me from being able to move even one inch, but I could at least vegetate from the next two days, which is what I did. Problem with opioids is today after the pain has subsided enough it was time to tackle BM number 2, well what can I say, easily the most painful BM of my life, was like pushing a durian fruit out of my back passage, or so I would imagine, back to square one with the pain, luckily though this time the pain was manageable with the meds I had and with only co codamol, after this I thought I would be a good idea to try some prune juice, well to say this worked is an understatement, not 1 hour later all the lactose and sena I have been taking is working with explosive efficiency, so here I am now in the bath after another round of meds (no cocodemol this time) hoping that through all of this in the end I will be able to say it was all worth it, as of right now all I can say is, I am sceptical.

I had the surgery and it was BRUTAL for like 10 days. I mean, I really wanted to die from the pain. HOWEVER, months later things are SOOOO much better. The only complaint I have is that my butt is often SEVERELY itchy like poison ivy and I've tried several topical creams that don't even touch it. And I still have some tissue hanging out. But comparatively, it's night and day. And I would do it again ... I think. I mean ... it was really unrelenting pain and I couldn't even read or sleep or watch TV I was so uncomfortable and miserable, so it was VERY difficult. But now I am happy I did it!

Guys- I have been banging on about the choices. THD is a stitch type ligation. I had the TST-33 procedure. I can honestly say that I did not take a pill- nothing- zero for pain! From the moment I woke up I felt no pain at all. I am certainly not a good patient (being male and all). I can only see in this forum that people that have had the THD have issues with the after effects. Check with a good colorectal surgeon about the options. I was going to have the HAL-RAR, but was advised against it due to the longer healing time, the discomfort and pain. Look, its your butt, however I know that I researched for ever and came up with the HAL RAR after seeing it on Embarrassing Bodies [BBC]. I travelled across Australia to the best surgeon I could find, and he (after checking me) suggested that the TST would be the best for me. So right there and then the change was made. Please look into alternatives and get a second opinion- people spend more time researching a telly than a surgeon!!! Sorry to rant, but I feel your pain and it may not be necessary.

THANK YOU! I feel like this may not be my last hemorrhoid surgery. I had my first one 10 years ago in my early thirties. Just had the THD and while it worked, here's what I said about it during the first few days: This should be a method of torture that countries use against prisoners to get them to talk. It was EXCRUCIATING for days, so much so that my best laid plans (I'll just take this time to catch up on books and scripted television shows) were out the door. I was in so much agony I couldn't relax enough to read or watch ANYTHING. Good to know and so glad you had a great experience.

Hi Leigh, I think you are probably right about everybody needing a different procedure. But why did your procedure need a re/do? Do you think it may be a less strong procedure. Hence less pain.

Hi "guest", no. My hemmies were absolutely terrible. I had them years and refused to get anything done as I was terrified of the barbaric traditional procedure. The first time it was done, it was a quantum improvement, but there was some serious tissue in there. The second procedure was as pain free as the first. In fact I had it done on the Friday in the morning, discharged from hospital that afternoon, then flew from Sydney (East coast) to Perth (West coast) on the Sunday and retuned to work on the Monday. Light duties, but still very impressive from a person who is the worst patient in the world. There is no way that - in the same situation again- I would go with any other procedure. To the point that if they come back, I would do it all over again. I would be hoping that it is not an annual event however!! If it was every 3 or so year, I could live with that. No pain, and a couple of days- hell, I spend that at traffic lights! I still stand by the fact that the THD is not the be all and (pun) end all. It is in your own interest to look at the options. After all, it is your butt.
