Had my MRI for my left shoulder last March 17, 2022 And I was on my 5th day of my period which is normally spotting and no more heavy flow. 7th or 8th day should be back to normal but everytime I pissed, I still have some blood clots coming out and sometimes some blood discharge which is not normal to me. I guess my period is messed up from the MRI. Thoughts???
It's highly unlikely that an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan would affect your menstrual cycle or cause prolonged bleeding. MRIs use magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the inside of your body and do not have any known effects on hormonal balance or menstrual cycles.
However, the prolonged bleeding and the presence of blood clots you're experiencing are concerning and should be addressed by a doctor. There are several potential causes for these symptoms that are unrelated to the MRI, such as:
-
Hormonal Imbalances: These can lead to irregular or prolonged menstrual bleeding.
-
Uterine Fibroids or Polyps: Noncancerous growths in the uterus can cause heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding.
-
Endometrial Disorders: Conditions affecting the lining of the uterus, like endometriosis or adenomyosis, can cause abnormal bleeding.
-
Infection or Inflammation: Infections of the reproductive organs can sometimes result in abnormal bleeding.
-
Medications or Medical Conditions: Certain medications, blood disorders, thyroid issues, or other medical conditions might affect menstrual bleeding.
-
Stress: Significant stress can impact your menstrual cycle, though it typically doesn't cause physical symptoms like blood clots.
Your doctor might suggest a physical exam, blood tests, or ultrasound to better understand what's happening. Your medical history, including recent procedures like an MRI, will be part of this evaluation, but the MRI itself is unlikely to be the cause of the changes you're experiencing.
