Lauren, from what I have been told, no matter where it shows up, it is still considered thyroid cancer, even if it is in another organ, such as the stomach. The treatment will be the same , the radioactive medicine. However, they may increase the dose this time. This is what I have been told regarding mine. I just completed my first round of radioactive treatment and first body scan. I am waiting for results. I know you feel afraid, so do I. If we have to have cancer, this is one of the best ones to have regarding cure. I am helped by prayer and I will pray for you as well. Keep posting, it helps to have someone with a similar journey to talk to.

Hello everyone:) My fifteen year old daughter just had a total thyroidectomy because of cancer about a week and a half ago. At her follow-up, the dr. said it had spread to the lymph nodes. Now, i know that this type of cancer is very common and can be curable, this is what the dr. told me. But i worry because my daughter also has Crohn's disease, diagnosed in Oct. 2010. Her immune system is not good aviously. So all of this scares me! I am doing my best to be optimistic and i take things one step at a time. She has been thro' alot and is quite the trooper. I am very proud of her! I don't think even I could handle things as well as she has.

He Just had his 2 treatment of I 131 again , and we have doctors to go over Post treatment scan he had done 4 days ago ( in whic hwas done twice due to possible contamination on the esphogus area)

I'm 29 and my mother was diagnosed with thyroid cancer about 10 years ago. they removed her thyroid and she went through radiation therapy they say that it's in remission. I recently started getting alot of joint pains started in my toes now it's spreading rapidly. Some days I can't get out of bed have severe shoulder, leg, neck and lower back pain . I've been tested for RA, gout, stds, infections, anemia, etc... all came back negative. also the right side of my throat hurts where it makes it difficult to swallow, I feel the pain in my back is connected to my throat problem. I also drink alcohol to temp relieve the pain now, but this I found aggravates it  more in the long run, also my menstral cycle is out of wack. Never been able to have children. I recently had an abnormal pap, and am nervously waiting to get the results. Could having a thyroid problem cause my pap to come back abnormal? can somebody who can relate a little give me some advice? I'm  dreading to go back to the doctor at this point, afraid of the worst. One more thing I had an abnormal pap 11 yrs ago and never went back to find out the reults. I waited 11 yrs and it s abnormal again. need some advice thanx.

To all... my mother was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer and had her thyroid removed at age 36...and she had radioactive iodine. She's now 71 and just found out that it recently spread to her lungs. She's had a section of her lung removed. It is very slow growing and she's still going strong.

Hi my mother has been going through this same illness I so understand what u are going through the iodine treatment has no side effects and if u have any mum or sisters near you let them know they can visit you while you are in having this done they just can't enter the room your in but they can have the door open and sit back this helps u to not feel so alone. I would also advice you to try your best on your good days to go to the Macmillan centre if there is one local as being around other suffers is a big help this helps u to deal with everything. Spend precious time with your children and take loads of holidays if possible I feel this time in your life is about making amazing memories and most of all ask God into your heart because only he can give both you and your family the strength you need at this time.
God bless Xo juanita

I was told that my thyroid cancer has moved to my lungs & is now preparing for radiation iodine treatment. They claimed it was is rare that this form of thyroid cancer comes about. Now since it has spread they want to be aggressive with treatment. Not sure if this is a good thing or not since they also said this is a test & if it does not work, they will keep trying. Not being a guinea pig// the first treatment will work.. Stay positive is all I am saying. Much love & God Bless

I just want to say my heart really goes out to all of you and your families. I know what it is like to be scared of the unknown. My husband just got the news today from his ultrasound that his limp nodes were very swollen and that there is a suspicious shaped lump on his thyroid. He has to go for a biopsy. He is my world. We have been married for 17 years and have
3 amazing children. When something like this happens, it makes you realize how important those who are close to you are!
