My son has had recurrent fevers for a month now. He is 2 1/2 years old. He has been pulled from daycare due to the amount of times he was getting sick. Since he has been home for the past three weeks he has been perfectly healthy, energetic, eating, sleeping well and an overall normal crazy little toddler. We have talked with the pediatrician multiple times and have seen other specialists - Infectious disease doctors, rheumatologist, pulmonologist and ENT (He has tubes for ear infections). He has had a CBC and everything on that looked completely normal by all of the specialists. Going back as far as 1/10/2023 his fevers have been anywhere between 99.6-102. Some of the time they will start around noon but most of the time he will be fine all day and then his fever will start right before bed 6:00-7:00PM. 99% of the time his temperature will be normal in the morning even without treatment the night before. We are at a loss of what else to check and aren't exactly comfortable with the specialists saying that this may just be normal for him. Any information or thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, Kd1989.

We had a similar problem with both of our sons in January. They caught a virus from me and had on-and-off fever for three weeks. We treated them with ibuprofen and inhalations.

It is important to take your toddler to their pediatrician to determine the cause of the fevers. The doctor may order laboratory or imaging tests, such as a complete blood count and chest X-rays, to help diagnose the cause. Treatment of recurrent fevers will depend on the underlying cause.

In some cases, the doctor may recommend medications to reduce the fever or antibiotics to treat an infection. They may also recommend lifestyle modifications such as increasing fluids, reducing stress, and getting plenty of rest.

Have you got any recommendations from the specialists?

We have not. Just that he may run warm and be an outlier when it comes to temperature variances. As parents we just aren't necessarily comfortable with the answer of "We don't know what's wrong with him but he's probably fine." As far as we can tell he has no infections at the time and that's why we want some kind of answer why he's getting fevers with no other symptoms EVERY night.

Hi again.

It is very difficult to provide a diagnosis without a physical examination and additional information. Fevers that occur without other symptoms every night could be due to a variety of causes, including infection, inflammation, or environmental factors.

Do you have blood test results?
