Hey Ladies,
I had my Mirena placed on 2/2/17 at my 6 weeks PP checkup. The first few days I felt fine with no spotting or pain. Its now been over a month and Ive had continuous bleeding, headaches, and now becoming nauseated. Is is normal for the first few months or should I be checked out?
The nurse who assisted by doctor told me to "tough out" the first 3-6 months of it and then ill be fine.

When I had my first IUD 6 years ago, the first 6 months were HELL. I got the same response from my doc. But as soon as the 6 month mark hit I didn't have a period for the next 4.5 years!

I got a new one placed in Jan 2017 and am noticing some nausea "morning sickness" feelings from it, that why I am back looking around on threads about it!

That's one of the #1 awesome things the mirena does. It completely stops your periods :)

I had Marina put in 7 mths ago to control my periods, I was flooding for 2 days. I have now been on a period for 7 mths flat (spotting my arse) in that period I have been put on antidepressants for my moods, in process of been tested for perimenopause poss hrt in 2 wks even though my bloods are perfect. I'm having flushes, sweating so bad on a night having to change my bedding and then 2 nights ago I started with stomach cramps, dizziness and wanting to vomit. Dizziness so bad what is now yesterday that I had to leave work early. Went to Drs assuming it's to do with early menopause. Told them my symptoms and was told it was my anxiety. In the last 48hrs I have had 1 hours sleep. Having this dam thing removed tomorrow thankfully but now realised I can't feel the strings!! I am so bloated I look pregnant and if I find out that the dam thing is missing there is going to be hell to pay. The last 7 mths have been an absolute nightmare and I'm now wondering if the symptoms are nothing to do with early menopause but this coil. Ps I never go to gp normally, I'm always at work.......Grrrrrrr

I just got mine taken out yesterday after having it for 3 and a half years. My health has not been that great and I finally tried taking out my IUD. For the past couple years (at least) I have been waking up feeling nauseous, light headed, just crappy. I wake up this morning and for the first time since I can remember I do NOT feel like total sh*t. I truly think it’s the Mirena and hormones. It sucks bc it was an easier birth control but not worth what it did to me on the daily. I feel like I’ve gotten my real life back again.

Well well well, here’s my story.

After several tries at the depo shot, I decided to get the Mirena in April of 2014. First 3 months, worst 3 months of my life. Felt like I bled for 90 days straight. Moody, felt crappy, emotional just absolutely a loser. I called the nurse of the dr that put my IUD and begged her to schedule me an appointment to get it removed! After an half hour sobbing and explaining how I had been feeling, she assured me that I was at the end of the beginning stages of my body accepting the IUD and that things would get better for me soon.

Then boom wala, I FINALLY stopped bleeding completely! However, after not having a sex drive for 90 days and feeling horrible, I had practiced abstinence for about a year and half until November 2015. Throughout that entire time that I did not have any sexual intercourse, I never had a period, spotted nothing.

After November 2015 and once I had sex occasionally or regularly, my cycle actually started. From then 2015 til now 2017, I experienced a period regularly as scheduled. Throughout this time, I have been having sexual intercourse as well.

Up until October of 2017, I thought I had my period as scheduled however, it did not look, smell or seem like a period. Blood flow, extremely heavy. Color, no where near the color of red but a dark deep brown. Discharge super clotty but only when upon urination. No smell like period smell but more of a metally smell. This lasted typical duration of my period. But I honestly thought to myself that it was a miscarriage. A few days after this “period” ended, I had to urinate and soon as I wiped I saw spotting. I thought to myself, weird but ok. Every time since then I have been spotting, I only notice it after I urinate and after I wipe a few times the spotting is gone. I have had to start wearing light colored underwear in order to see that I have been spotting daily. It’s not heavy, it’s not red, it’s a light brown discharge color. This has been occurring since October and it’s already November 2nd! I have taken 3 HPT and they ALL have been negative! I have been super moody, tired, my breasts are super sensitive and sore, I feel like my urine is a deep dark yellow color, I keep burping, even when I don’t eat! My stomach hurts all the time, especially only on one side. I honestly look and feel pregnant lol in my eyes. Everyone else thinks I’m crazy. I told the dr at the emergency room my symptoms he thinks it’s impossible for me to be pregnant but I know how I feel and what I feel is real. I already have a four year old so I know what being pregnant feels like. I feel nausea everyday. I have been vomiting everyday since October’s “period” left. Especially at the same times everyday, 10am and 2pm. I recall experiencing the metallic taste in my mouth back in October. I have been extremely constipated and extremely diarrhea. I can barely keep food or liquids down. The dr at the Er showed me my uterus with the Mirena still inside and that’s it! No baby. Still have Mirena! But I STILL FEEL PREGNANT!!!! He suggested I wait until I officially miss my period according to my October timeline “period”. I just don’t think I’m crazy or tripping. I don’t know what’s going on but for the headaches, the constipation, the burping, the nausea, and smells; I truely feel like I’m not imagining this sh*t. I have 4 days technically until my “period” comes, we shall c!
