Hello everyone -
Looking for advice for my girlfriend who is smoking weed (and a lot of it) every night for sleep/anxiety/"therapeutic" purposes. She has smoked on/off for 10 years (she is 31) and certainly seems addicted...thoughts of quitting make her defensive and nervous and just cause more anxiety. She quit this Christmas for 4 weeks and slept and was totally fine (using melatonin and herbal tea) but once grad school started she went right back to it "because she knows it works".
While there are some short term sleep-inducing effects, she must have a permanent THC presence in her body because of the sheer amount smoked each night. She is now more frequently waking up in the middle of the night (not dreaming) and then needs to go smoke again...and the cycle continues. It seems like a cat chasing its tail...smokes to fall asleep, then wakes up, then smokes again. Then repeats the cycle thinking the next time will be better
It is clear to me that she has an addictin to it and needs to get off regular heavy use - not just for her health but for the sake of our relationship. I have been patient for quite some time and really want to help her stop - not out of control or disdain but because of love and caring.
Can someone recommend some alternatives to nightly weed smoking and share any similar experiences?
