:( I am going to go crazy. I was just about  on the way home from the doctors office today after he told me. I have tendonitis in my left IT band. Never bothered me when I was training for the Marathon, didn't bother me running the marathon on 1/11. Took a week off after it and then tried to run on 1/18 and there was the pain :? . Rested a few days then tried again and still had the pain :? . After trying again to run Wednesday morning and still having pain I decided to face the facts that something was wrong and made the doctors appt. So now I have to go to PT for 6 weeks and NO running until I see the doctor again. He told me I can still swim and do the elliptical trainer as long as I don't have the pain. (which I don't because I swam today and nothing and have done the elliptical when I could run and no pain.)

:toobad: so sorry to hear. it's only six weeks, you'll heal, you'll be better, you'll run again
but i know it sucks right now.

That stinks - it really does. I'm sorry that you got this setback. Let's hope you can get back to running sooner than what was said ( of course without risking any other trouble).

Can you do any cross training? The bicycle really helped me out when I had IT band issues (although mine were not as severe as yours).
How about swimming? Any type of cross training may help you keep your sanity.

I'm sidelined too with an ankle and hip issue.
:toobad:
I know exactly what you are going thru.
It sucks to plan and train and plan and train and then....PffT!

I was sidelined for two years due to a bunch of small inconsequential injuries, culminating in a major plantar fasciitis attack on the left foot in March. After a two month treatment with ibuprophen all is well.
I know how tough that is but just relax, take the PT and try to learn how you can make your tendons more flexible.

sorry to hear it. I think the biking is a great idea. I'm beginning to think that trying alot of other muscle building can't hurt. I'm having alot of little weird things going on and I believe it's due to I've lost so much core muscle over the past year.....for 16 months it was run, run, and more run.....I dropped weight lifting to lose weight and I stopped biking. I think sometimes you have to go back a rebuild some strength. This may be a good time to think about those muscles that aren't directly related to running.
ok....I'm doing abs today.

Just heard a sports medicine talk recently.....after 2 weeks ibruprofen isn't going to help and may hinder.....except I do understand that you may need the ibruprofen just for pain purposes beyond two weeks. The doc did say that PF is one of the worst to know "how" to treat.

I am going to swim. This is a good way for me to get my butt back on the pool. I am not sure about the bike. I met with my PT guy on Monday I am going to check with him.

I'm amazed it manifested itself after you took a week off and not before. But at least you saw the doctor. One of the biggest problems I see with runners is they will simply guess at what the problem is, self-treat themselves and then try running through the pain, making a bad situation worse.
Those 6 weeks will pass quickly, especially if you throw yourself into the eliptical trainer and swimming. You won't miss too many beats.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear that.. :toobad: I was sidelined for 7 weeks earlier last year due to a tibial SF. Try incorporating some X training activities in like swimming, water-running, weight training, or cycling into your training schedule..That will at least slow down/ maintain your aerobic capacity.

I will join your pity party! I can't run outside of the pool for at least two weeks, and it's been a week since I ran. I'll meet you by the pool, and we'll bike afterwards ....
