Hi Tandem

My doctor said it was due to nerve damage by where I pointed too the pain and swelling I had on my foot. The pain was on the top of my foot and at the base of each toe, and ankle and not the operation site. He has indicated that the nerves will grow back and all will be well, but it will take some time. It is now nearly 10 weeks and there is still pain and swelling but I have to admit it is feeling better. So fingers crossed for you that yours will get better too.

Vonny,
I cam across something that does seem to be helping. It is a natropathic formula with some essential oils in it. It is made by CVS Pharmacy. It's called Nerve Pain Relief. It can be used about 4 times a day. I felt relief about 4 or 5 minutes after I used it. It does have capcasain in it. The price was $24.00. The fact that it helped me confirms to be that most of my issues are nerve related.

Oh thanks for that, I wonder if you can purchase it in the UK?

Do an online search for naturopathic or essential oils to help nerve damage. Maybe you can find something similar. Helps during the day, but not me as much at night as I would like. That is when the pain is the worst.

I had bunion surgery in june 2012 I am still having pain, stiffness tingling ,cant fully bend toe , partal feeling, cant wear any of my old shoes had to buy new ones half size bigger. And I still have a fracture that just refuse to fuse together. Iam currently using a bone growth stimulator now for 3mos so far ,trying to help bone to fuse. And my dr. Is giving the stimulator about 6 more weeks to see improvement, if none ..... surgery is the next step. This is a longer healing process than expected or told.

Sorry you are going through this. I had the surgery 6 weeks ago and don't have issues other than the incition is very red. today the doc put me in regular-sturdy shoes. the only pain is the incition at the touch and it still swells in the evening. I had pain at bottom of foot on second week but went away after 4th week.

Hi Chris, I am sorry to say I am in the same boat. 4 1/2 months & I have pain in the ball of my foot, pain I didn't have prior to surgery. It's so bad that I have bursitis in the opposite hip to compensate for the pain I have in my foot. I am frustrated and disappointed that my surgery has not given me relief but rather much more pain. I have been going to PT for over 2 months and not much change.

I had bunion surgery on both sides and the dr. also did surgery on the top of my foot this was at the end of February.  In the beginning of July I started feeling nerve damage ALL over my body, head to toe.  He just sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed me with fibromyalga and is treating me with a patch for that and another patch(Lidoderm) for the nerves on the top of my foot.  Not sure if I'm on the right track or not.  If I would of known that this was the outcome of this surgery, I would of lived with the what seemed to be minor pain before!  Mind you I was running 3-4 times a week 3 miles each time...now I can barely walk!

Chris, I am in the same boat. My surgery was almost 4 months ago and I am at my wits end with the pain. I am a teacher and I was lucky to be off of my foot during the summer but I had no idea how painful it would be when I went back to work in August. I am basically on my feet all day and ice it during my lunch break. I come home everyday with it swollen and in tears. all my dr says is that is that it will take time and to take it easy. Right! I am a teacher, I have to work, there is no easy there. The only thing that helps is staying off of it. I am seriously considering getting my scooter back that I used for 2 months this summer when I was non-weight bearing. I take ibuprofen and ice and massage daily but the minute I get up in the morning the pain starts. I am trying to stay positive because I know that is key. I am looking into acupuncture to ease the muscular pain. I will let you know how that goes. Everyone I talk to says it takes a good year to recover. So hang in there you are not alone! DG

Someone stole your paragraphs, either that or you're simply a m***n. Why should we take the advice of someone who doesn't understand Third grade English composition? Please no more CHUNKS OF TEXT, ugh!

My husband got fibromyalga after having knee surgery. Seems like surgery or trauma of some kind can cause this to happen. Not a good trade off.

suffered with plantar fat pad atrophy from age 24 on. I'm now 51. I had metatarsal head resections with implants, but the procedures did not last for much longer than 1-2 years, in terms of providing pain relief and freedom from plantar callouses. I did obtain a lot of relief from using a line of products called "Walk Healthy", but in early 2012 I was told the product line had been discontinued. I was then offered the opportunity to have the Wright graft jacket material implanted in the metatarsal area of my right foot. It took a while for the incisions to heal (they are on the side, not the top of your foot), but it WAS WORTH IT! No pain, no callous, no numbness, no lumps, no padded shoes, no rubber soled shoes. I had the left foot done on December 28; it was just as successful. If possible, I urge everyone who is considered to be a candidate to consider graft jacket, and to find a DPM who knows how to perform the procedure (even if it means traveling to get to him/her). It IS worth the investment of your time and recovery.

Hello I also had bunion surgery just over 4 mos ago and I am still in pain. I had both done but one is more painful than the other. I don't' know what to do now either, when I stand it hurts and the scars are so sensitive. I am very limited on what I can wear as my feet throb and are sore all the time. I am going to give it a bit more time and if nothing changes I will go back to see the specialist. Let me know what your doctor suggest :-)

Chris, It has been two years since my bunionectomy of my left foot. This surgery was not a choice, although partially I wanted to be able to wear sandals again ;) the bone looked troubling to the podiatrist and he wanted to biopsy it (gladly, nothing was wrong) it although has been two years and I still experience pain. I don't really mind all that much but I want to explain what happened to me. I started having severe pain again especially in the ball of the foot so I went back to the podiatrist who, after x rays, figured out that my sesamoid bone (the lateral one) had fallen back and was inflaming the entire joint. After months of treatment nothing was working so now in 2 weeks I will be having a sesamoidectomy. You could have something happening to you like what happened to me. I do also want to warn you that I still have limited mobility in my big toe since the bunionectomy, I haven't been able to run or exersise using my feet in 2 years. I also have terrible balance and will run into things and loose my footing easily. This is just warning, everybody is different and I do not regret my bunionectomy, but it may take a long time before you feel any relief!

You sound exactly like me. It's been 3 months and my foot still hurts and I can't stand wearing shoes because of the pain
