An add on. My Physical Therapist always use heat before exercising the shoulder to warm it up and ice pack after to cool it down. Makes a world of difference and I do the same at home.

Jim, i am almost 9 weeks post op and just have an aching at times. I have Rheumatoid arthritis as well so sometimes it is hard to tell which is which but my range of motion is close to what it was before surgery so I can't complain about that. How are you doing now. Joyce

Obviously, this is supposed to serve as a supportive website for rotator cuff surgery patients, either pre or post op. Everyone heals at a different rate and responds to pain differently. What is a level 5 for some is a lower or higher level for others. I've heard from a few how painful this surgery is...mine is in the near future on my dominate arm. I don't have advice for anyone who is facing or currently recovering. I've undergone knee replacement and doing the physical therapy, required for a good recovery, is so very important regarding any type of orthopedic procedure. Yep, it's going to be painful. If the meds you're taking aren't strong enough, tell your surgeon. Using one of those ice machine thingys may help...I'm supposed to be using one. Used one during my knee replacement and it really helped. Hang in there.

I am at 5 weeks since rotator cuff surgery and removal of bone spurs on my dominant right shoulder.  I am allergic to pain pills also.  I have pain in my bicep muscle which ends in pain in my wrist.  Did not have this pain when I had my left shoulder done in 2013.  I am trying to find any relief from this pain but have come to the conclusion it is  healing process.  Did anyone have a better answer.  My problem is going well.  I can do my exercises without a lot of pain.  Usually the pain is in the evening or when I go to sleep or try to.  I am still sleeping in my recliner.

Tommorow will be week 7 post op for me. Tore 4 muscles in rotator and tear in bicep. The one thing I have noticed is those who do the pt/rehab religously will have quicker healing time. I am fortunate to be able to rehab on my own time 3-4 times per day in addition to going to pt 2x per week. was able to get out of sling at 4 weeks and according to pt and surgeon, I am about 4 weeks ahead of schedule regarding mobility.

As far as pain goes, i have great days and not so great days. I stick to advil as my source of releif. When ever i feel tightness, I do a few rounds of stretches/exercises the pt has me do and I will feel good for a few hrs.

Rotator surgery is one of most difficult to come back from. Pain is normal. Dont try to do too much too soon ( I am an advid lifter. I know it will be a minimum of 5 months before I can even attempt a "normal" workout)

I am 32 days post surgery ( a little over 4 weeks) and I have pain all the time. I am a 50 year old woman. I have alot of pain most of the time. I wonder if this is normal? My Pain is located in the FRONT of the shoulder (near the top of the shoulder, but defintely on the front of the shoulder) and the pain is also on the side of the arm at the very top of the bicep. Can this be normal? I wonder if the surgery failed? or if I re-injured it?

Since you know zero about the individuals that have written, or what other health issues they may be contending with as well, I find your post condescending and rude. Yippee that you're doing well. Some of us aren't, and maybe just maybe there's a reason besides the need to "man-up" as you so helpfully suggest. For boot camp that might help. For folks in pain, especially those of us who maybe already lived with chronic pain before this surgery, it's more like a middle finger. Every person heals at a different rate, every person's body handles things differently. It's really great that you're doing well. I'm genuinely happy for you. But please curb the pompous ass
attitude.
I am a 57 year old woman, two-time cancer survivor with four cancer surgeries and a knee replacement on my resume as well as having FMS/CFIDS and SPD. I am doing exactly as my Dr has ordered and six weeks out am having unexplained almost-unbearable pain when I reach in one direction although my ROM is back to better than before surgery. I was glad to find this forum to see that not everyone snaps back immediately and maybe this doesn't mean something has gone awry in there.
Thanks to EVERYONE that shared your experiences. Hope you all heal to a pain free place.

Hello to all. I am 5 weeks today after surgery that was done on 11-9-2015. I am here to tell you.....OUCH! The worst thing that I have found after surgery is no movement in the shoulder. After 3 weeks and what seems like 3 hours of sleep, I found a comfortable pillow to put under my arm while in a recliner. I removed the sling and had help placing my arm on the pillow. Stay on the pain meds only as directed. I had a mild shoulder massage and used deep heat. After the three weeks started using a heat pad. 1st PT treatment had almost 35deg movement. Today at 5 weeks I am at 105 deg. movement. I feel your pain. I sleep without the sling and use it only when needed or out of the house. Don't give up. Your PT is actually your friend. At 5 weeks now I am starting to see changes for the better. I had a major operation where they had to retrieve the major tendon and reattach it as well as sew the other three. I had a bad bone spur and when I fell it went through muscle tissue. I was told it would be a 40 minute operation and it was right at 2 hours. The most painful thing I have ever gone through. My accident was in July and due to a project I had to see through completion I waited until November to have taken care of. Biggest mistake of all. After 3 weeks when wounds are healed I soak my shoulder in hot tub for a gentle massage. Best advise I can give is keep all guns locked up, hang on for the ride and record a lot of movies. It will get better. Such a rotten experience talking about it, it brings tears to my eyes typing this. I feel your pain.
