Hey all! GREAT NEWS!!!! There's hope!!!! I had the same issue for 4 years. Pain in my urethra EVERY time I urinated. I would cry sometimes it would hurt so bad.I have been to the gynocologist 3 times due to this and the urologist twice. They all said tests showed no signs of bacteria infection or urinary tract infection, and No STD's. The urologist put a scope up my urethra into my blader(worst pain ever) and found nothing. It cost me $300 cause my insurance didn't cover it. But I was desperate so I had it done. He told me there was nothing else they could do for me, but take Azo uti pain relief and deal with the pain my the rest of my life since that was the only thing giving me relif. That was Nov 2011. Towards the end of Jan 2012 The pain had gotten worse to where I didn't want to potty at all. The AZO wouldnt work anymore. It felt the worse at the end of me going. Like razor blades were coming out! So I took it upon myself and bought a $6 Home UTI test by AZO. And guess what?! It came back positive!!!!! I called my reg. doctor and told her and they called in some meds to the pharm. They only cost $12. I've only taken 2 pills out of the six, and the pain is gone!!!!! I can still tell my blader isn't back to normal. Still have the urge to go frequently, and my back is still sore where my kidneys are. I'll be taking a home Bactria infection test shortly to make sure that's not the prob. Please take a home UTI test!!!! It's super cheap and totally worth it if you are in the same pain. Good luck all!!!

I got cerazette for my urinary pain. The pain dissappeared after a few weeks and hasn't come back. Happy as can be! Apparantly it is endometriosis even though I didn't have a heavy or painful period. Just an irregular one. Go figure. And my uroligist would not have gone there since it is out of his field of expertiece.

Early this morning I ended up in the er. with the exact same issues many of you have posted. Unable to urinate, inflamed urethra, severe what I would call stomach pain, back pain, which I assumed was kidney pain. Having had kidney stones in the past, and many many UTI's I did not think that a kidney stone was the problem. I had assumed that is was a severe UTI infection. One like I have never had before. Knowing that a UTI can become so severe if it spreads to your kidneys which ultimately leads to being hospitalized. I immediately began the process of increased consumption of water with the hopes of flushing out the system of any bacteria that was in there. I had just seen my doctor the day before because I was having problems with urination. Inflamed urethra and unable to expel more that 2 tbs of urine. I waited for the test results to come back from the exam. Results were a very small amount of bacteria. My Dr. didn't think that I should go on any antibiotics at that moment. We both agreed to wait for the rest of the results to come back. Well by early Sun. morning the symptoms had gotten so bad I ended up in the er. after sitting there for 6 hours in their bathroom outside the lobby sobbing in pain praying to be able to release all of the fluids I had taken in for the past 30+ hours. I was finally seen. They took another urine sample which came back with no bacteria and very low white count (4 to be exact) and very high red count (189)which I knew meant... Yup, you guessed it another d*mn kidney stone. I would rather go through labor again!!!!! At least you get a break between the contractions! Anyway, I was prescribed pain pills to get me through the passing of yet another kidney stone. Which to be honest I didn't think it was. All of the beginning symptoms just didn't seem right. We left the er at about 6:45 this morning. As of now I am not passing any darn stone. Still can not urinate more than the few tbs., still the inflamed urethra and still the same feeling of the need to urinate every second. oops almost forgot the same darn burning sensation. As of now I feel that I have not been diagnosed properly. So as I lay here in bed bored to death hopped up on pain pills unable to function properly. I decided to get on my laptop and start searching forums for anyone with the same symptoms. I have to say I was shocked to find so many of us women having the same darn issues with no end in sight!!! So I continued to look for any type of diagnosis. The link I posted below was the only thing that I came across. I simply suggest reading the article and then talking to your doctor to see if any of you might have the same issue as the woman who wrote the article. I know Monday I will be calling my doc. to see if this may be the problem.
Best of luck to you all, and cheers to hoping we can find some relief.
A fellow sufferer of ??????????? (discomfort and pain)

I had this happen along with monthly UTIs and kidney infections. Your doctor needs to put you on a special antibiotic for 3-6 months.

How many of you take some form of hormone? Either birth control or other? I found that going off the pill cured me and I was without an infection for years. Back on the pill, back to agony. Off again, just fine. I have recently opted for an IUD. And now the problems are back. Seems my body makes me pay for messing with nature? Anyway, the IUD is coming out now.

Hey guys! I have been experiencing the same discomfort and pain you all are feeling. I am 15 though. The pain you say that arrives after sex, I wouldn't know because I am definetely not sexually active, So I may or may not have the same thing going on. For about a year now, the whole region down there hurt terribly, and comes randomly. The pain is to a point where I wake up, thinking I have to pee, but nothing comes out. I had a bladder infection that was "cured" by antibiotics, but I feel as if it is not fully gone. Anyway, to help you guys out, what I do to temporally stop the pain is drunk ALOT of water, and (this one works quite well) any Minty tea. I also just take an asprin. Well I hope the temporarily tips help guys! It's all I got because :/

Hey, it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one, so I thought I'd share with you what I've gone through and also some helpful things that I have found out.
I consider myself lucky because this is my first UTI in 2 years, and as I remember from my previous experience it was a long and painful recovery even after the antibiotics. Because I have had UTI's before I was able to recognise the symptoms and I went to the doctor almost straight away, but my doctor didn't give me a long enough dosage of Cefalexin, which worked for the short period of time that I was on it (and after a week of being on the wrong antibiotic because they found that the bacteria was resistant to Trimethoprine where the symptoms worsened), so I saw another doctor who gave me another, but longer, dosage of Cefalexin. It is helping, but I also asked him how I Can prevent future UTI's or flare ups, I also did some research my self and consulted my mum (she's a Microbiologist and works in disease control at the local Hospital) and I've been trying to keep up with the following:
- Continue taking the dosage of the antibiotic even if the symptoms start to feel better so that the bacteria can completely be removed from the urethra.
-Wear cotton underwear which make it less sweaty and moist there because the fabric helps your skin to 'breathe' and cotton liners are good so that you can change them more frequently and prevent the spread of more bacteria.
-Urinate before and after sex and even afterwards I shower and clean with FemFresh (a soap free wash that's spacific for intimate skin) The reason you are more likely to get a UTI after sex is because sweat and other healthy vaginal discharge and also (if you don't use condoms) ejaculate and pre ejaculate fluid...Etc. the mix of all those liquids in and around the vagina make the perfect environment for other bacteria to move around. The most common type of UTI is caused by Escherichia Coli (E. Coli) a bacteria that is naturally found in the rectum. Because of female anatomy the rectum is very close to the vagina and urethra thus making it very easy for E. Coli to spread and cause you to get a UTI, that is why it is important to urinate straight away and flush out unwanted bacteria. (It doesn't help that a woman's urethra is very short so it's even easier to get bladder infections and cystitis.)
- Drink plenty of water. (This is one I struggle to follow) Drinking water is essential for recovery. It dilutes the urin so that it's not concentrated which sooths any discomfort that you may get even after the infection is gone. Any sweet drinks filled with sugar should be avoided especially during the infection (even cranberry juice, unless it spacifically states ''sugar free'') because the glucose helps the bacteria to multiply, also avoid affeine because that dehydrates you and it concentrates your urine thus irritating your urethra.
- Try to drink Urinary Alkilinizers such as URAL, they lower the acidity of the urine which helps fight the infection and also sooths the burning sensation. You can even get URAL with cranberry (it tastes shocking though and I vomited from the taste)
-So I've mentioned cranberries and cranberry juice a lot. Well cranberries are known to have a natural property which thins the mucus that the bacteria attach to and it helps prevent it from multiplying and spreading. But like I mentioned before, there is no poin in drinking sugar filled cranberry juice because it won't do anything. The best is to drink pure cranberry juice without sugar or addatives, or drink URAL with cranberries, but if you dislike the taste of any of those (I wouldn't blame you if you did) There are always just pure cranberry pills. But another down side about cranberries, they can irritate the bladder. But there is another alternative and that is:
- Hiprex. It is an antibacterial pill solely to suppress and eliminate UTI bacteria and that is sold at the pharmacy without a script, I've been taking it twice a day with my antibioticS and it's sped up the recovery so far.
Another thing that I have noticed is that after the Antibiotic I don't feel 100% straight away, and I get dscomfort at the entry to the urethra, especially if I wear tight clothing, not during urination but after or if I didn't drink for a long time so my bladder is full or the urine is more concentrated. All I can say to that is it will get better over time because your urinary tract needs time to heal and it is sort of like an open wound, you need to keep it clean in order to prevent an infection. (at this stage where you feel slightly irritated at times, it is easier to get infections because your body needs time to heal so drink plenty of water.)
It will take a month or so for that occasional irritation to go away (to be clear, by occasional irritation I mean it only lasts for a little while and if you have a big drink of water and continue drinking it will get better and only happen again a day after or so...) but after that you should be back to your propper routine.
But if you're prone to getting many UTI's each year month after month then that burning sensation even after the infection is gone will last longer because of the damage to the urethra.
I hope this helps anyone. Best of luck and I hope you all feel better.

I too have the exact same issue. Around 3 years now and it's getting worse. I went to see a Urologist and was told that next time it occurred (even though I told him it never goes away) my GP would put me on 6 months antibiotics but it wasn't a sure fire fix. He went on to suggest getting pregnant, which at the time I found ridiculous!!!
I am now pregnant, not due to the urologist advice I hasten to add! My GP wouldnt prescribe the antibiotics either so the whole thing was a farce. But with my pregnancy I am more concerned. The midwife keeps chalking it up to the fact I'm pregnant, I just need someone to take me seriously.
Any advice would really help. Thank you.

ANSWERS!!! I had same issues for years and many urologist, gp, Gyn, all said everything normal. Finally went to urologist that happened to be specialist with my disease and tested and came back positive and been getting treatment ever since and made huge change for better in my life.
It is interstitial cystitis and here are symptoms:
The signs and symptoms of interstitial cystitis vary from person to person. If you have interstitial cystitis, your symptoms may also vary over time, periodically flaring in response to common triggers, such as menstruation, sitting for a long time, stress, exercise and sexual activity.
Interstitial cystitis symptoms include:
Pain in your pelvis (suprapubic) or between the vagina and anus in women or between the scrotum and anus in men (perineal).
Chronic pelvic pain.
A persistent, urgent need to urinate.
Frequent urination, often of small amounts, throughout the day and night. People with severe interstitial cystitis may urinate as often as 60 times a day.
Pain during sexual intercourse.
Some people affected by interstitial cystitis experience only pain, and some experience pressure or discomfort along with frequent, urgent urination. Most affected people, however, experience both pain and frequent, urgent urination.
