Ok girls... We know this is a common problem, and although I am not a doctor, I have researched the heck out of this topic, because I share in the same symptoms. So here is what my research concluded. It is likely Cystitis. Once you are on an antibiotic for some time it can cause strain on your kidneys and ureter. It takes time for this to heal. The reason water helps is because "dry kidneys" irritate the lining again. So while your body heals from the UTI or, cyctitis ( usually caused by too much sex or forceful sex) or a combo of both, drink plenty of water, make sure to go to the doc to make sure your urine is clear of bacteria and lighten up the amount of sex. Takes 3 to 4 months for your kidneys to become less irritated. Alcohol, tobacco, caffeine all add to the irritation of your kidneys so limit theses! If after 3 or 4 months if you aren't feeling better or if your symptoms get worse see a doc immediately.

I have been suffering for 3 months now. Pain in my urethra constant. Crampy and just feeling awful. I am so uncomfortable. I have no appetite. Started with a yeast infection that would not go away. I have been to 3 gynecologists, and a urologist. Two trips to the er. Where they told me they could not do anything for me. The urologist found some polops in my urethra but did not know if this was causing me the pain. I have been checked 5 times for uti and all were neg. I do not have any urgency to pee but aft I go it just starts throbbing down there. Can yeast still be causing this much discomfort?

Stephanie, probably not. I am guessing they have run all tests necessary to rule out sexually transmitted stuff right? If so, are you eating a probiotic every day... Yogurt? Throbbing is usually not the symptom of a UTI or ureter inflamation, but I can tell you that staying away from all liquid except water is probably best. Drink tons. Head back to a different doctor if your symptoms don't lighten up or seem to get worse. It could just be a severe inflammation that takes time to heal.

Thanks Marlene, I am at the end of my rope. They have checked me for everything. Everything comes back normal. I started with the probiotics again. I will be seeing another urologist on Monday. Maybe they will have some answers. I am amazed at how much these dr. Do not know.

I feel you. I've post on and off here for years. Mine also started after repeated yeast infections. In my case, I got my first bladder infection after (unsuccessfully) trying a hydrogen peroxide douche to try and rid the yeast infection. Don't douche!
Ever since I've had the IC symptoms on and off. Usually much more pronounced during PMS, after drinking alcohol and if I'm run down.
I DID find that taking a particular probiotic seems to help alot- Femdophilus. It's pricey, though. I don't know why this one helps, but I realized after taking it for a few days that the IC stuff got much better. However, I've been taking the femdophilus for a while now, 2x a day, and the IC symptoms still come and go, so it's not a cure. I actually started taking it for yeast, then realized it was making a huge difference in the acid reflux I've had for many years. Clearly whatever strains of probiotics are in this stuff have a lot of benefits for me.
Anyway, I suggest trying it or other types of probiotics to see if you can find one that might make a difference for you. I'd recommend you get one that is refrigerated, as many of the shelf varieties have been shown ineffective. I've used the Jarrow shelf-stable before and found no benefits at all.
Anyway, I wish you luck. And if you find something that really helps, please post!

-Painfulfpee here again-----BTW- I've seen several doctors, including urologists and gyno-urologists (!). I was supposed to get a test done where they put a tube in me and look at my bladder, but I didn't get it done. The consensus seems to be IC, even without the test. However, the treatment options do not appeal to me, so I try to keep my discomfort to a minimum via diet and staying healthy. Not always successfully ...:P

Hi there, I have been using Ultimate Flora for vaginal support probiotics. I am not sure if it is doing anything. I just bought some tee tree oil. It seems to take away some of the ache. It does burn a little when you first put it on. I will try anything at this point. I had that cyscopy done. I had no idea how uncomfortable it would be. He barely even numbed me before he started! He found polyps but has no idea if that is what is causing the pain. So, I am going to another urologist tomorrow for another opinion. Hopefully someone will figure this out soon. I hate when these doctor's look at you with out a clue. They have no idea what is wrong but they always manage to send me away with a prescription for something. I had one "specialist" diagnose me without even doing an exam. I am getting very discouraged.

Did you notice any other hormonal type changes when you started getting the urinary pain problem?
And have you tried eliminating different foods/drinks to see if it helps? Common problematic stuff is usually high in acid- pineapple, vinegar, tomatoes, salsa (all the acid stuff in one sauce!). Chocolate also seems to be bad for some. I find eating a lot of wheat seems to worsen the symptoms. Unfortunately I love bread and thought it makes both the yeast and the bladder issues worse, I keep eating it. :P

Oh! Just reread your post! My best friend started having similar bladder issues last year- constant pressure like having to pee, crampiness, etc. Turns out she had cysts or polyps in her uterus. At same time she was having heavy, irregular periods, etc. She was going to have a procedure to have growths removed. then she had a particularly heavy period and the problems resolved. She believes the growths came out on their own. Gross, I know, but the point is that she had a sudden onset of similar symptoms, for which doctor couldn't say if it was causing her UTI-like symptoms, but since it has gone away along with period issues, it seems they were probably the cause of the bladder stuff, too.

I've had Interstitial Cystitis for about a year and a half now and I have it so bad that I have to take Vicodin everyday just to get through the day. I also have an interstim implanted in the nerves in my back that go to my bladder. It's a life saver!

what's an interstim?

It's an electrical stimulator. It stimulates the nerves that go to the bladder and helpes with pain and urgency so lets say someone with ic has to urinate 60 times a day...the interstim makes it so you would only have to go like 20 times a day. It's expensive but it's a life saver!

Hi, I noticed most of you posted a year ago or more. Has anyone managed to resolve this problem? I can't believe that so many people have the same problem as me!! I have been trying to explain this to various doctors for a year now but they don't know what to tell me. I too had a series of bad UTI's and had various antibiotics. They eventually settled down but left me with this problem! It's awful and is generally an every day occurrence. I have previously been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis and thrush. Does anyone else think that these are related to this problem?? I am desperate to get it sorted and I really don't want a camera up my urethra! Especially after so many of you have said that nothing was found in the bladder to explain this problem.

Please reply if any of you have managed to solve the problem!!

i was gonna ask the same thing, if someone already was "CURED".  i even tried vicodin for the pain which didn't help. i was diagnosed by my urologist with inflamed urethra (urethritis). i was given, like everybody else, antibiotics which didn't fully resolve the problem. i'm checking the net for a solution to the problem but there seems to be none. i just wanna get rid of the pain coz i cannot function 100%. i asked my urologist when the pain would go away, he answered months. when i told him i have been in pain for months already, he said some people have it for years! i mentioned if a person can go on disability for it and he said, nobody goes on disability due to urethritis. i'm a nurse. how am i supposed to take care of someone if i myself feel horrible? i need something that works for the pain. doctor's always prescribe motrin which you all know doesn't help. if anyone tried something that works for the pain, please... share share share. the only thing we can do for now i think is live with it- which is sad.

Wow, this is really weird. I have the same thing going on now. I was first put on Cipro which is when the symptoms started. Then later Augmentin. Is there any connection with any of those antibiotics with any other posters? This is ridiculous.
