I started off in middle of my upper abdomen starting hurting then spread through my whole stomach. The pain in my stomach is dull now but i feel like i have a knife in my right side of my abdomen underneath my ribs. I was diagnosed with constapation and fatty liver syndrome. But now the pain is worse and I've used every laxative possible but still have not had a bowel movement. Really need answers. In so much pain that i can't sneeze when i need to or even yawn. This has been going on for 2 weeks

Precordial Catch Syndrome (PCS)

PCS is characterized by intense pain, usually on the left side of the chest, which becomes worse during inhalation. The pain usually lasts a few seconds but can last up to half an hour. Patients often describe a ‘bubble’ sensation that is relieved when the bubble ‘pops’. The frequency of PCS can vary widely, from several times daily to once every few years. Unfortunately, there is currently no known treatment.

I am hoping you can help me. For approximately 3 months I have been having pain behind my right rib. The pain is also in my right side and back. The stabbing pain is aggervating and uncomfortable during the day but is stabbing worse at night. It keeps me awake. And wakes me from my sleep. It also intensifies if I cough or sneeze. Pain relievers do not help nor does a heating pad. There are times my rib gets tender and feels like it is bruised. I have had no injury in the area. I have seen GI and Neurology besides my GP. I have had blood work, CT, U/S, Hida Scan, EGD, Colonoscopy, and Bone Scan. All test came back normal. I have been in the hospital emergency room 3 times. The last time I was given Stadol and was the only time I did not feel pain for 2 days. I wasn't awake either. I am tired all the time. Have nausea with some vomiting, and constipation (constipation due to the medication). I am a nurse and this scares me since my doctor and I don't know what to do or treat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi all.  Finding this article is amazing because I've had this pretty much my whole life and always just thought it was something only I had because I've never heard anyone else ever mention it.  But here's what my symptoms are:: suddenly I'll get a sharp pain somewhere in my chest... usually towards the lower lobes of my lungs, just in one spot, and like I've seen so many people on here say has happened to them... it hurts to take deep breaths but I discovered if I did it and got it over with it'd hurt REALLY bad and then it'd feel like a bubble popping and the pain would stop.  It happened a lot when I was younger but as I got older it occurred less and less and now it's been years.  I was looking it up online and came across "blebs" and "bullae ".... which are basically air pockets on or in lung tissue.  According to what I read these things rupturing is fairly common and doesn't indicate disease or some other problem with the body.  I thought that sounds exactly like what mine is, except what I read said these things rupturing usually lead to the lung collapsing. .... fully or partially.   But I know neither of my lungs have collapsed so I don't know if that means it's not a blebs or bulla rupturing?

Hi I have a question did this collapsed lung thing make surfing hard for you? Because I am a scholarship high school swimmer and I want to know if this will effect me and swim because I really like swimming and I don't want a lung to ruin that for me if I have this collapsed lung. O and how did you know it was a collapsed lung what where your symptoms? Thanks

OMG! I have had that going on for years and thought I was the only one! I've never asked a doctor about it because when I've told others about it it sounded so weird I couldn't imagine describing it to a doctor. Plus since I figured it was just me I was afraid if I told a doctor I often felt bad pain and then something pop in my chest the doctor would freak out and put me in the hospital to run all kinds of tests. And I just haven't felt tests are necessary because I've had this happening all my life and since I'm 40 and it hasn't killed me yet or caused any other problems that I know of (unless it's related to the PVCs I get, which the doctors have no idea why I get them), I don't think it's going to. But thank you SO MUCH for posting that information because even though I don't worry about it, it's nice to finally know I'm not the only one that experiences it abd it's actually got a name!

Did you ever get this diagnosed? Same pain here, and was sent for yltrasound. Which led to finding a lesion in my liver. Had a biopsy and was benign. Doctor said this should not be what's causing my untermittent stabbing pain. So no answers here!
