Me and my husband have been TTC for a 3 years, so I finally went to see a doctor. I was diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin 500 mg a day since February 2016. since then my period had been normal. I've been getting my period every month until May 2016. What I thought was my period really wasn't. I was spotting. it was on and off not enough to be a period. (tmi) I would wear a pad and nothing. It's 2 days after the spotting and I've taken numerous pregnancy test, but it'll always be negative. I have a doctors appointment today and I'm crossing my finger and praying that a blood test comes out positive. Reading these messages gives me confidence that I am pregnant but my pcos is preventing a positive pregnancy test.

PCOS does interfere with pregnancy tests. I didn't find i was pregnant with my first child until i was 3 months and my second child i found out about 10 weeks. I'm insulin resistant, on high protein/low carb diet w/ daily exercise. My HCG hormone does not elevate to the point of regular woman to show positive on a test. As a matter of fact my HCG was but slightly elevated with my 2nd child and when they retested 2 days later it had dropped, they thought i was miscarrying. Well all praises to God my baby made it!!! Now i might be on my 3rd!!! :) of course my test comes back negative so i'm not taking any this time. I'm just gonna leave it to my Lord who destines my steps

Now if you are not trying to ge pregnant you should be on the pill, not the ones that are multicoloured and give you a different dose as your cycle goes on, but the ones that are all one colour and give the same dose all throughout. This is what my doctor told me, it because our hormones are all out of wack and a regular dose works, where the different doses might not.
Now if you are trying to get pregnant your doctor should try you on progesterone for 10 days to jumpstart your period. Then on day 3 of your period you should take either Letrozol or Clomid, (sorry about my spelling not sure how to spell them) you take them for 5 days and then on day 21 of your period you go in for a blood test to see if you ovulated. You keep doing this at different docige levels until you either find one that works for you or you find the max levels don't even work for you. Then your doctor should put you on Metformin, it might regulate your system by its self, or you will have to go on the progesterone jumpstart again and then one of the fertility choices. This hopefully will get you to ovulate regularly. Once you are you wont have to take the progesterone any more just the fertility pills on day 3 of your period. It is also a good idea to keep doing your day 21 blood tests to make sure your ovulating. Then on day 28 through 35, you should do a pregnancy blood test, they are more actuate for those of us with PCOS. The pregnancy or ovulation test that you buy and pee on at home can come pac as false negatives or false positives for people with PCOS. The blood tests are the best way to go.
Now it is important for you to figur out your own cycle, each woman is different. Day 1 is the first day of a full bleed from your period. Once on meds your cycle should be regular, my cycle on meds is 32 days long give or take a day, but on average 32days. If my period has not show up by day 32 and I do not feel crampy at all, I will call my doctor for a pragancy blood test, (note I would have taken an at home one on day 28 or 29 already.) Now me being about a 32day cycle, that means that I will ovulate about in the middle of my cycle, so about day 16 is when I will ovulat. So just to be safe having sex from day 12 to day 19 every second to third day. You should take a at lest one rest day in between because you male partner needs time for his seamen to replentify. Don't worry seamen stay in the female body for 3 to 5 days, before dying. (This is all information my fertility doctor gave me.)
Now I live in Canada where most of the tests are covered, although not the meds. So I understand if you can't do all the test that I did, exspecially if you live in the USA. But I thought it important for people to know the whole story that my doctor put me through, and there is just a bit more to it.
Now when I was first diagnosed with PCOS I was told that technically there in no test that says yes you have PCOS, there are just signs that you have it, so in the end they can"this say yes you have it, the doctors can say you most likely have it and let's treat you for it but it can never be a 100% dingosice. Now here are the symptoms, iragular periods, misses periods, very long period, and not just 10 days I am talking about multiple weeks, my longest was 5 weeks on 3days off 3 weeks on. Although this doesn't happen for everyone. Other symptoms, facial hair, tummy hair, thicker arm and leg hair, also thinning hair, possibly even balding. Having higher male hormones is not a symptom ( it can be a reason for any hair issues you have other than PCOS ). There are also a few other symptoms but they are not coming to mind. Also PCOS is something you are born with, there is no instant treatment, you will have this form the day you get your first period to till they day you have your last. Menopause is the cure! Not joking but I do find it a bit funny! Anyway I hope this was helpful to aleast some of you! Good luck and I hope you all have lots of baby's!
