This may sound funny - when I noticed the white tip on the little bump, I pressed it (just like a pimple) and this white seed like bit came out. Just like a pimple, the relief was almost immediate. I can only do if the "white head" is present. Don't know what it is, or what it means, BUT - it is obviously some blockage that, when cleared, solves the problem.

Wow. I read this post , saying to eat a pickle. I went to the kitchen, ate a pickle, and also gargles with apple cider vinegar. 5 minutes later, looked in the mirror, and the white has returned to normal red color of my mouth. Thank you to whoever posted this. May good fortune follow you. Deb

i had this a while back.  After seeing 2 doctors and a dentist and getting no satisfaction, i went to see a nurse practioner friend of mine.  he explained to me that it was a salivary gland stone and prescribed eating lemon drops.  the tart lemon drops makes your body produce excess salivary which will help the stone release and come out.

I think people in this thread are describing two different symptoms: a) Most people are describing a fairly large white lump under the tongue, on the bottom of the mouth/on the connecting tissue between the tongue and the mouth (not on the tongue itself). This is the one that when you squeeze it you get the rice crispy thing (according to the posts in this thread). And it's at least as big as a rice crispy or maybe up to 4x as big according to one poster. b) A few people are describing a blackhead type pimple that is actually on the bottom of the tongue (on the tongue itself, not on the bottom of the mouth). This is much smaller, only a few millimeters. It's hard as well and does feel like there could be a "stone" or something inside it. From my bit of Googling a) seems to be related to saliva and blockage, and popping it clears the blockage and fixes the problem. As for b), which is what I have, I haven't found much online about bumps that are actually on the bottom of the tongue. It seems like most sites I found are talking about a). I don't think b) is the same because of the size and also I don't think the tongue itself has saliva glands. So b) is more like you have a taste bud on the bottom of your tongue that got irritated somehow and decided to get inflamed and grow into a clearish puss filled sensitive-to-touch pimple. I get b) a few times a year. I'm on anti-depressants (Effexor, Wellbutrin), but I'm pretty sure I get the bumps after eating certain types of foods. Not sure which types but it seems to happen after I eat at a restaurant or get take out food. For me, I've always let them go away on their own which takes 1-2 days. This time I decided to pop it and see what happened. I popped it fairly gently and got puss and a bit of blood. No rice crispy thing and I don't think even a hard black thing either like I expected (unless the black thing came out and I missed it). When I popped it the size and sensitivity when down a lot and it was clearly on its way to being quickly healed. Then I read this thread about people aggressively popping and getting a white stone. Even though I was pretty sure they were talking about lumps on the bottom of the mouth and not the tongue, I decided to go to town on the pimple and see if any stone popped out. After much thorough squeezing all I got was more puss and a bit of blood. I don't think there is an actual stone in this case even though the pimple is hard and feels like there could be a stone in there. I think it's just puss with outward pressure. So in conclusion if you have what looks like a blackhead or pimple that is actually on the bottom of the tongue, I'd recommend either waiting a couple of days to see if it goes away on its own, or popping it gently. Popping it aggressively just irritated it more for me so I think just getting the first bit of puss and blood out is enough to have it start to heal itself, and there is no need to be aggressive with it. I also found this image online of a salivary stone that looks just like a rice crispy so this might be what people are talking about for a):

I have heard that if you eat a lot of sweets or salt you can get these they can be popped and then go away m(blood or pus should come out they do not necessarily mean something bad some people live with them for their life

Mine eventually came out and a huge rush of saliva came out. It happened by itself but I think its bc I flexed it a lot. It finally came out and it was a small ball of like calcium .

I had it for 3 days but today I could see the yellow ball. After reading this I massaged the swollen area under my jaw to force saliva to push on the ball and, looking in the mirror, manoeuvred my tongue to make the gland accessible. I used the nails of both my index fingers to squeeze and it eventually popped out. It took me almost 20 minutes because I kept trying and failing to grab my gland between my finger and thumb. But it was a lot less painful than the swelling I had every meal time and totally worth it.

Thanks all--especially the guest who mentioned the submandibulars--for clarifying my symptoms: I too would get a swollen lymph node on the right side only (the infrahyoid, the one that gets swollen when you've caught a virus) every time I ate something; it was worrisome, though not at all painful, and then I noticed the link between eating and the swelling of the node, and that prompted the search online. I found info on the salivary stones and then later this page when I noticed a bump under my tongue. I squeezed a very small white stone out--about the size of 1/4th of a grain of rice. Perhaps the smallness of mine left me not feeling any pain, but my infrahyoid would swell up pretty big after I ate some things--especially chocolate and yoghurt. Now I'll have to see if the infrahyoid inflammation goes away. *crosses fingers*

Hi all,

Honestly, thank you to everyone who made this thread so beneficial. I was living with that swollen, somewhat hard bump under my tongue for about two years. Then recently the whitehead part appeared, and I started to get a little worried. Came online, and found this forum through google. It immediately gave me some comfort to know it was more aggravating as opposed to serious, but then kept reading how everyone found a way to "pop" it out. Kuddos to the user who suggested the q-tip method, cause that's exactly what I did and... yep, popped right out. Super weird. It was like a literal stone that seemed to have gotten calcified somehow. In any event, don't freak out if you develop something like this. Take two q-tips, squeeze the little bastard, and your mouth will be back to normal.

thanks to all.
