Feeling better today and sleeping better. Trying to do more around the house but I won't push it I promise. I have a bit of a rash around the incision. Not sure what that is all about. Maybe from the tape or the waterproof patch I'm putting on to shower because I'm usually alergic to certain types of tape but as far as I know I still need to keep the incision dry. Have a call into the Dr. to ask about that and a few other questions.
Don't let the puppy chew your shoes up!
Take care everyone.

After I took the big dressing off, I started showering so the incision definitely got wet. Someone else was talking about an allergic reaction to the tape as well. Fortunately, I didn't have that problem. I do remember my skin being very, very, very dry though. Flaky, scaly dry. It took about two weeks for that to go completely away.
Glad all is well so far. I thought it probably would be. Remember though, ups and downs are very normal so don't worry if you sink for a day. You will rebound. Actually, you sound as if you are doing much better than myself at the same point so I'm here to tell you that it seems you should be great in a few weeks.
Yes, the pup is fun and a LOT of work. She's our second Golden. My wife and I love the breed and the pup and her have really bonded. Nevertheless, my wife was getting tired and I tried to give her a break this weekend. That's when I got sore. Actually, I think the pup may speed my healing because she forces me to bend, stretch(smartly of course), get up and down and so on.
If you have questions, ask away.

Piriformis syndrome has ruined my life. Both sciatic nerves were going through the muscle , tendons inflammed.
I've had it for about 12 years now, it's hell, everyday is agony.
Had my right piriformis muscle released with a big incision almost two years ago and has caused my pain to become worse and has caused adhesions around the sciatic nerve but no one here who can help me release the adhesions or to successfully release my other piriformis muscle . my legs feel very weak and muscles go into spasm.
i have a hypertrophic scar too which is very painful.
I have pain going down my legs to my feet, pressure on my buttocks is agony and on my hips so sleep is hard, I have coccydynia too.
I wish I could see Dr Filler to help me, but we don't have the same level of treatment here on the NHS and no one understands piriformis syndrome, but I haven't the money to see dr Filler either. I feel he is my only hope but that's unrealistic I know.
My story is much longer than this, but I've tried so many things. I just dream of being cured and see the the man Dr filler.
Sorry for going on, but desperate for help and I can't get it here on the U.K.

What's the new pups name?
All:
Still sleeping better. Pain is less today. Talked to the new nurse yesterday. He's very nice and seems to be "on it" so that is comforting.
He said I could drive and take short walks as long as I feel ok. I guess they say don't drive mostly because of the medication but it doesn't affect me much so that's not an issue for me. I'm kind of nervous to drive just yet so I won't! Will try a bank outing today and see how that goes.
What's going on with you Julie? Dr. Huggable....any improvement?
Rotten J....are you getting better?
Hope your daughter is hanging in Menzie.
Margie, glad you have a surgery date. I ve forgotten are you having both sides done?
Sadie, hope you are doing ok today.
Assuming you are great Donna!
Hang in there Shirley, help is on the way!!

I'm not really trying to ignore you. I've been logging on for a quick read through to follow everyone's progress and then off running again. We have a group of 11 people here from the US this week and it really keeps both me and my husband running to care for all their needs.
Leesa, glad to hear you are doing well after surgery. I drove for the first time between 2 and 3 weeks out of surgery and did ok. It was a short distance in a rural area, so probably didn't require as much alertness as your situation does. Just be careful.
I also had the itching and rash under the tape and no matter how many types of tape we tried, I seemed to be allergic to them all. I put some anti-itch cream on keeping away from the incision itself, and that seemed to help.
I went to a sports medicine specialist last week for help in designing a rehabilitation program. Besides PS, I have a lot of other small physical abnormalities and so I wanted to be sure that I'm doing things the right way. It was reassuring to have his expertise back up what I was already doing. Only thing is that he wants me walking up to 3 hours a day and that is really hard to find that much time. He also very strongly recommended swimming, which I won't be able to do because there are no heated pools here and even though its way warmer than where most of you are, its still pretty cool to swim.
Hope everyone is having a good day and I'll check back in later this week.

You sound like you're doing fabulously and that is such an encouragement! You inquired about my upcoming procedure. Mine is not bilateral. It's just my left side. I have mild symptoms on the right side but the Dr. feels the right side is just mimicking (sp?) the left and that it will clear up. I can't imagine having to do both sides at once! OUCH!
Take care and keep getting better!

Pup's name is Savanna. She's a joy but very stubborn. Our other Golden earned his Canine Good Citizen's award. This pup, whether she likes it or not, will get hers as well. Takes lots of training but it's fun. The breed is just too large to not be very well mannered.
Donna,
Good to hear from you. Could you please pass along the rehab program that you are following, as appropriate. I'll need it in a few weeks and I KNOW that the rehab folks around here have no idea what PS is(in any detail) or how to help someone rehab from surgery.
Margie,
The other side can mimick? LOL, I hate it when that happens but I'm very glad you won't have to have both sides done. This is a very spiteful syndrome.
Hope all is well with everyone.

Well I'm not sure if everyone's oppsite side can mimic but mine appears to be very clever in the mimicking department! :)

Still feeling pretty good. Went to the bank the other day and that wasn't too bad. It was around a 15 minute round trip including bank time so it was short. Felt wierd to be out in the world :).
Having less and less pain, trying to follow recovery orders. Getting a little "passive-aggressive heat" from work but I'm not going to give in to them!!! I refuse to rush this considering all I've been through.
That's today's update. Hope everyone is well.

David I know your left side isn't yet as good as you would like it but still you sound like you are doing pretty well as far as functioning. Taking care of a new pup is lots of work. How is siting now?
Leesa what about the 20 minutes in one position--are you through that period?
Well, guess what, I am booked to see Dr. Filler on .5 and my plane reservations are made for .4. I really can't believe that I have finally done this. My friend is all set to come with me too. I haven't started getting a place to stay yet--maybe on the weekend.
Am going to the Wasser Pain Management Centre in Toronto tomorrow for a consult. This appointment was made a long time ago on referral by the doctor who does my botox injections so I will just see what they say.
Tonight is one of those nights when the pain is at its highest so Iwill close. Keep following your instructions from Dr. Filler and tell your work to get lost.

Thanks Shirley, good advice. I need to try to get rid of the tiny guilt I'm feeling because it's crazy to even have an ounce of guilt (about work).
My "20 minute" thing should end this coming Tuesday. I speak to the nurse Tuesday so I'll make sure this is true and see what they think I should do going forward.
Excited to hear you have an appointment date set for Dr. Filler. That's great news. Let us know how it goes at the pain mgmt place.
I drove to a drug store today, picked up a few things, came home and rested then went to a grocery store, all with my mom's help of course (she carried everything!!). Felt pretty good but I may have overdone it a bit as I'm feeling it now. A little more pain that I've been experiencing so I know I just over did it.
Have some minor leg pain and the incision site is sore and feels a little "tight" inside if that makes sense.
Take care,
Leesa

Glad to hear your mom is helping you. I'm glad to hear you are out and about but please don't push yourself too far. This is a great time to let people do things for you. Keep in mind that when we allow others to help us, it is a blessing for us AND for them. So don't deny anyone that privilege!

WOW, how did you know I don't like asking for help?? :o Thanks for reminding me of what's important.
