I take Zyrtec & 800 mg of Ibuprofen when it happens... Somehow it relieves the pressure & helps me sleep.... I was told I get fluid on my ear ... Pain is always in the right ear & right side of my neck & sinus cavity are in brutal pain. BUT I have been noticing it coincides with my menstrual cycle! So I don't believe it is fluid in my ear!

It is funny how I am not the only one and mine are exactly the same they last for 3 days and then they are gone. Sometimes it comes prior to my cycle but lately it happens the start of my cycle but again it lasts those full 3 days. Help because the pills my doctor prescribed for my headaches don't work.

I'm 33 y/o and this menstrual cycle it has been bad. A week before my period, my neck has been stiff, and has slowly gotten better, but not to its normal self. I also have a pressure headache, sinus tension on my forehead, super tired, nauseous, even feel I'm gonna faint. I didn't realize this could all be connected to my menstrual cycle

This has been driving me crazy. It isn't every month, but I think that whenever I do get it, it's right before my period and lasts 3-5 days. I get a kind of heavy feeling in the front of my head, behind my eyes and nose. My nose isn't blocked, but feels tingly at the back of it and I feel like I want to spit mucus out from my sinus all the time. My eyes feel tired and I feel very low energy. I get migraines, and this doesn't feel like one at all. Advil and Tylenol don't help. The feeling fluctuates throughout the day but is always there. Then suddenly, poof, it's gone, just as I am really starting to get worried. It is so hard to really explain how it feels but it is really unpleasant. If anyone figures it out, please let us know.

My allergist said this is becoming more and more common and may have to do with hormones in our food but not sure yet. It's awful and nothing I take helps but I am going to try the evening primrose

I have THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. I think mine is a combination of sinusitis and migraines prior to and during menses. I have been being treated for solely hormonal migraines for the past 9 years, with preventative and acute pain meds, but I didn't know until the past month when I went to an allergist that sinus problems can occur simultaneously with menstruation, enough to be very disruptive to everyday life. So I'm thinking a lot of my "migraine" problems maybe could've been treated as sinus issues? I think if my sinus headaches are bad enough and left alone without being treated, they develop into migraines, but I am very interested in what other patients and professionals have to say about their experiences with this menstrual sinus phenomenon. I am currently experimenting with many different kinds of bc pills to try to relieve my hormonal migraines, if that's what they are. The pills with estrogen make my head much worse, and the progesterone-only pills are a bit better but seemed to give me more sinus issues. I would like to have the IUD and hope to get some relief with that.

I have the SAME EXACT PROBLEM. I have been being treated for the past 9 years for menstrual migraines. I just this past month saw an allergist and found out that sinus problems can coincide with menstruation, with enough severity to disrupt daily life. I'm guessing that perhaps the hormonal migraines I've been experiencing may have been able to be treated as sinus headaches (because that's how they originated?) My gyno and I have been experimenting over the past several months with various bc pills to try to control/ease what my neurologist and I have assumed are exclusively menstrual migraines, with little success. Estrogen pills make the headaches more frequent and worse, and even progesterone-only pills did somewhat better but seemed to bring on more sinus issues. I want to try an IUD.

It was really good to read these posts as I feel exactly the same and these headaches are so debilitating. I also notice I feel as if my sinuses etc are all very dry and my nose is blocked(saline nasal spray is goo)and my eyes feel red and dry as well sometimes when I experience these headaches.they are completely debilitating. I take 900 mg of aspirin and I find this can really help with the pain but it's not a complete miracle but it gets you back on your feet most of the time.i also read a really good book called the migraine miracle written by a neurologist that strongly suggests changing your diet to a low carb one- bit difficult but I'm trying!i found it very good as the doctor is now more or less migraine free after doing this.hope some of my tips may help someone else!

THIS happens to me too -- identical symptoms!!! Same side of my face and temple -- IDENTICAL! I've been suffering these headaches for YEARS and it only just occurred to me in the last few months that my menstrual cycle to be the culprit. It's a relief that I'm not the only one out there -- but now I just need to find a solution to battle it! Have you found anything or suggest something? Ibuprofen doesn't even touch the pain.

If you can, try to see a neurologist to determine exactly what the origin of your headaches is. If they are menstrual-related, perhaps a combination of hormonal birth control (it's the fluctuation of hormones that can cause migraines during menses) and preventative as well as pain-relieving migraine meds may help to ease your pain. (If it's a sinus thing you might need to see an ENT specialist.) There are also alternative medicines and therapies to help supplement treatment. Good luck, I know what you're going through!

I have horrible sinus headaches with severe swelling in my sinuses and painful ear pressure. This didn't start until my 40's. I have to take a decongestant and use a netti bottle to get any relief at all. I exercise regularly, eat right, and am otherwise in good health. This is almost dibilitating for about 2 days.

I think this may have to do with blood pressure as well. When we retain alot of fluid at that time of the month, it can cause swelling on the brain. This happens to me as well. I know about the swelling on the brain because I had pregnancy induced high blood pressure ( preeclampsia ) when I was pregnant. The monthly symptoms are exactly the same with the swollen sinus and headaches with nausea to the point sometimes of vomiting. Dizziness, cloudy thinking . The pain would be going down one side of my head into my neck. I would throw up when they were really bad literally 10x and by the last time , my sinuses would drain and the pain would miraculously disappear. The only thing that has helped is taking magnesium. But you have to up the dosage to like 500mg a few days before your period. I take like 250mg on a daily basis. I hope this helps. It helps me most of the time, but if I forget to up the dosage, this headache will happen. Magnesium helps prevent water retention, relaxes the muscles and regulates hormone levels.
